I think Tulane is playing cal poly instead of South Carolina this weekend. Thanks, nice catch! Not sure if I made a mistake or they switched the schedule. Corrected above.

I think most assumed that Cal Poly would lose to the national champions but UCLA really looked good I thought. Should be great games in Hawaii!
In the east, I thought the AVCA poll looked off and Stetson(17?) Vs GSU(13), showed that. Stetson won 5-0 and only lost 1 set. They even won the exhibition match in 2. Next up for them is FIU.
Does anyone know who was the first NCAA Conference to start NCAA Beach Volleyball? Someone told me Atlantic Sun, I would have thought Big 10 or West Coast. Google doesn't seem to know.

Someone was correct that ASUN was the first conference for Beach (Sand at the time). Also right about Stetson and GSU rankings needing reversal, although "I called it" first, before the match, here: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/76584/avca-season-ncaa-polls-predictions?page=1#ixzz5g6N2wwaTSeems I may have been wrong about TCU, but not giving up hope yet. Would love a report on the FAU/TCU match if anyone saw it.

Definitely agree there should be some good games in Hawaii! UCLA looked great, and Cal Poly seemed competitive in every match, so both could do well this year.

LSU defeats FSU for the first time in history.
It is the first East region team to ever beat FSU.
Finally some competition for the top East bid into the NCAA tournament.

AT-LARGE recap:
1. LSU beating Cal Poly early last season was key to them earning a 2018 At-Large bid and they repeated the feat this year. Should LSU stumble later in East play again, this give them the lead for At-Large bids.
2. FSU defeating Cal Poly gives them a similar edge towards an At-Large bid, should they need it. I expect FSU to earn an East bid, but they may be having a down year. Or perhaps it is just some East teams are improving and closing the gap.
3. Cal Poly's win over South Carolina could be huge, now that we have an initial look at top teams in each region. Both teams could be bubble teams in their regions, so they might be compared against each other for At-Large.

EAST REGION recap:
1. LSU (4-0) is at the top with quality wins over FSU and SCarolina. They play both teams again next weekend, which should be great competition.
2. FIU (4-0) started strong with wins over GSU and Stetson. I appear to be wrong about them having a down year after losing half their starters.
3. FSU (4-1), despite their first East loss ever, is in good position with quality wins over SCarolina and Tulane.
4. FAU (4-0), Stetson (3-1), and SCarolina (1-3) look like they are the other possible East contenders this year. We will find out if any of them are legit next week.

WEST REGION recap:
1. UCLA (5-0) picked up wins over other top West teams Pepperdine, Hawaii and Cal Poly. They are going to be hard to catch.
2. Pepperdine (3-1) got a crucial win over Hawaii and played UCLA close.
3. USC (0-0), LBSU (0-0) and Hawaii (2-2) all should be in contention for West bids (or At-Large). They each play strong competition this week, so we shall find out!
4. Cal (2-0), Cal Poly (3-3), and LMU (3-0) could enter the bid race if they beat a team listed above.

I forgot that FSU lost to FIU in the AVCA tournament in 2015!
So their loss to LSU this weekend was not their first to an East region team.
I stand corrected.
