Yup. I’m disappointed K Shoji is STILL there. I want to see more of Tuaniga and Ma’a. Also surprised to see Christenson and Holt already.

My best guess is, with only bringing three OHs, Ma'a will probably see at least one match on the left again. I doubt Speraw will play DeFalco/Sander for all three matches and we all know Muagututia isn't going to get the job done.

Last time I didn’t think his passing was good, but he was served a lot of floaters so maybe he’s better at passing top spins

Might be the ball difference, as he hasn’t played with international balls much and it floats more than the spirals in college. He should be fine after awhile

I hope most of you understand, Team dynamic and a mix of Veteran experience means more than your personal opinions about OUR national team players. You are all welcome to close your eyes and daydream your starting 6 sweeping every match without ever subbing out, dropping a set, or hitting/passing below .500/2.8 🙄

www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2019/June/09/US-Men-Pick-off-Portugal-for-2nd-VNL-VictoryU.S. Men Pick off Portugal for 2nd VNL VictoryBY B.J. HOEPTNER EVANS (BJ.EVANS@USAV.ORG) | JUNE 09, 2019, 11:37 A.M. (ET) COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 9, 2019) – The U.S. Men’s National Team took its second win of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Sunday, beating Portugal, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17 in Ufa, Russia. The U.S. (2-4) is in ninth place in the VNL standings heading into its next venue in Cannes, France where it will face Argentina, Germany and France. All matches are being shown live on FloVolleyball.tv, a subscription service. OFFICIAL STATISTICS | BUY VNL TIX FOR HOFFMAN ESTATES | BUY TIX FOR VNL FINAL A day after a lackluster loss to Russia, U.S. opposite Ben Patch said the win was key. “It was important for us to come together emotionally, physically and mentally as a team to win this third match,” he said. “That’s important going on for the rest of the tournament.” Patch, who led all scorers with 20 points, said the team is working hard to win even though it has automatically qualified for the Finals. “We’re not dumb, we know we have already qualified,” Patch said. “But that’s not our mentality… We’re really trying to make sure that we are focused. Regardless of whether we’re qualified or not, we’re trying to win the VNL tournament. That’s going to take winning right now and not just at the end.” U.S. Head Coach John Speraw kept his starting lineup similar to the one he used against Russia except for starting David Smith at middle in place of Jeff Jendryk. Speraw subbed Micah Ma’a in at outside hitter for Garrett Muagututia to start the third set and finish out the match. "We've asked quite a bit from our pin hitters this weekend," Speraw said. "After a couple minor injuries, we ended up having only three available outsides and one of them, Ma'a, I was committed to playing at setter this week.
"T.J. (DeFalco) and Garrett had to battle and, eventually, I had to change plans and send Micah out there to hit."
The U.S. led Portugal in kills (48-44) and blocks (8-6). The teams tied in aces (2-2). The U.S. kill percentage of 49 behind setter Micah Christenson was a big improvement over the Russia match (33.3). Portugal’s kill percentage was 39.3. Patch scored on a match-high 17 kills, two blocks and one ace. Outside hitter T.J. DeFalco added 12 points on 12 kills. Christenson finished with a match-high three blocks. Speraw called the first two weekends of VNL "productive." "It was good to have Ben back and Kyle Dagostino looked good in his first two starts. "Mitch Stahl had another really nice weekend. He had dramatically improved. "Having Max Holt and Micah Christenson back was great. Our record isn't where we want it, but it's been a very productive two weeks. Looking forward to Cannes and continuing to improve and grow as a team."

Really disappointing week imo. I get that we are already qualified, but roster choices could've made this better. You brought 2 people that didnt even get off the bench in Sander and Kawika.
If Sander is hurting, dont bring him. No intention of playing Kawika, bring someone else.
We basically had Muagatutia for 3 matches and completely ineffective the entire time. But there wasn't much choice in players. And had to bring in Ma'a to hit. Don't get me wrong here, I was yelling at my monitor to bring him in as a hitter all weekend, but that's because there wasn't any other choice.
I think Ma'a might be the guy that you can't leave off your roster because he can play pretty much any position if needed.
That said though, we should've brought a couple of other outside hitters or at least one other to replace Kawika and/or Sander.

Tim, I appreciate your frustration, but as Coach Speraw says, his plan took an unfortunate turn and he couldnt play Sander and then had to use Ma'a as an OH Ripple. We will see some welcomed additions in France. It will be a nice suprise for many of us. Slowly but surely the players will get some PT and I think the staff is trying to build the unit in pieces little by little.

I'm really liking Stahl in the middle. He's been the most impressive non-lock player so far.

They’re needed.

Are we plagued with injuries still? We saw Sander with ice on his hitting shoulder. Are Jaeschke and Russell healthy? If not I don’t want them to play.
