In my opinion Ma’a is an insane athlete and reads the game very well. His ability to play both Setter and OH is truly a gift. Anderson also plays OH or OPP. Players like that are such assets not to be wasted.
Locks for me so far are: Christenson, Anderson, A. Russell, T. Sander, Holt and E. Shoji.
Other making a strong case: Ma’a, Stahl, DeFalco and Patch.
The rest all need to keep on grinding it out and fight harder.

IMO for 2020
Locks (same as toddyj)- Christenson, E Shoji, Anderson, Sander, A Russell, Holt
Likely- DeFalco, Jaeschke (would move to lock if he shows he is back healthy after ACL)
Has a good chance - Patch
Unknown - second setter spot (hoping for Ma’a), two more MBs (between Smith, Jendryk, Stahl, Averill)

Looks like Dagostino and Jendryk are heading back home this week, so I guess Tuileta and Averill are going for week 3?

If Christenson is traveling, there’s absolutely no reason to bring K Shoji along. Just leave it to youngsters, I’d rather see Saeta.
I think Saeta may be a more practical choice at this point despite all the fuzz about Tuaniga and Ma’a. These two need a couple of years of pro life to polish their game. Saeta last season led his team to Champions League quarterfinals (all the way from qualifying rounds) and French league runners up. As a second year pro and first year starter, that’s impressive results.
Anyway, I’m all for replacing K Shoji and Watten.

Muagututia s being on the roster and on the court a lot is confusing,
Two theories:
1. Jaeskhe is not recovering well. They need someone who can step right in instead of some college kids. Turns out he can’t do the job. 2. Farewell games for a veteran, but that’s a lot more games than he’s ever played for USA. The recent week may be due to Sanders injury

Smith must be there. Likely - Didn't like DeFalco this weekend, but he's a serious candidate to an OH3 place. Jaeschke on form, imo, is a Lock. One quick word to the others: Patch - no doubt, the potential is there, but he has a long way. I'm in Europe, right now we have here at least 30 guys better than him as OPP. Let's see if he can improve serve&accuracy . Ensing - Could be OPP2, but he has na unorthodox way to hit and serve, losing some good plays. Stahl - IMO, he was the big surprise, very good serve&block. Lock as MB3. Jendryk - Lock as MB4 Ma'a - beside the very good serve, didn't see anything special K.Shoji - not my choice, but in light of Speraw choices, can be Setter2 Watten- Lock as Libero2. Mututaguia - not the required quality for this team. Sorry, awful pass, no high jump. well, good serve. Dagostino - same, no quality for this team. All in all, very good 1st team, 2nd team some miles away. As long as there is no injuries, fine.

Jaeschke had an Insta story from Cannes today. Great news!! 👍🏻

Any other news for week 3’s roster? The only ones that look to be there for sure besides Jaeschke and Averill per social media are the Shoji brothers and Taylor Sander. Hoping for Aaron Russell as well. Michael Saeta, Kyle Russell and Dustin Watten look to be in Anaheim still. Pan Am Cup for a few of these guys I am assuming.

I think Aaron Russell is there too (but not positive), so maybe have them practicing with the squad in France instead of with the group in headed to Mexico for Pan-American Cup? Just hope this doesn’t mean a setback with Jaeschke.
