Add in Jake Hanes and Tyler Mitchem, lets get a 7 footer team Hanes would be despised by everyone on the team because 1. He is literally only useful for shade on a bright day 2. An emotional wreck

In the couple points I saw today in their practice session, it was: Russell, Sander, Christenson, Anderson, Smith, Holt and E. Shoji vs Muagututia, Jaeschke, Ma’a, Patch, Jendryk, Huhmann, and K. Shoji(as Lib) Starters vs backups...sounds about right! Guessing we'll get a heavy dose of the Russell/Sander/Christenson/Anderson/Smith/Holt/Shoji group this week/weekend with the others sprinkled in at times.

Muagututia in, DeFalco out for this one. Hugeman jumps straight into the big roster. Again, Speraw needs to make a decision about stepson Ma’a. You can’t bring 3 setters every time. Probably what's happening here is serving subs. Ma'a and Humann have really good serves. With that said, DeFalco has that caliber of serve, but with 4 OH's already, its kind of too many. Though with 3 setters that's also too many. That said though, Ma'a can fill a few holes if needed as serving sub, setter sub, OH, and OPP.

Maybe but I’m expecting 4 OH, 2 OPP, 4 MB, 3 S, and 1 L. Probably true. Ma’a being included makes me think the second setter race will be very, very interesting for the next year. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out along with the third MB. It will be "uncomfortable" for some to handle but that may be a good thing. Right now I would go with K. Shoji for multiple reasons but next year... Ma'a may be more than ready to answer the bell

Ma'a may be more than ready to answer the bell I can’t remember if it was Paul Sunderland who said it or Speraw on a podcast (I think it was Paul), but it sounds like there was some angst in the gym from veterans about all the new guys being included on rosters, but at the same time the vets wanted time off. Speraw had to remind them that they were all new to the USAV gym too at one time and they can’t have it both ways. I’m sure some of the angst is around just having new guys on the floor that they’re not used to playing with but sounds like there is some competition happening right now that the core group is a little uncomfortable with. Competition is a fantastic thing leading up to 2020!

Competition is a fantastic thing leading up to 2020! It was Sunderland. But it was in reference to the veterans connecting on the court with the new guys. He spoke with Speraw who mentioned guys like Anderson and a few others wanted time off after the grueling pro leagues and, upon return, had to learn to connect with setters like Ma'a on the court. There were complaints and Speraw basically had to say, "You can't have it both ways." Meaning: You can't ask for the time off and then complain that you're struggling to find the connection/rhythm with new players on the court. Not necessarily a competition for playing time. More about adapting and putting in the work.

http://instagram.com/p/BzvOBqulxTp I know it’s been posted before but no TJ? Only 1 L? And Ma’a in a pretty much the A team? Speraw must have seen something special in him.
