So true!!! They are deep at the top of the roster. And the average age of the four OHs is probably 25/26. Young and talented. I’m more optimistic about setter than Libero. You mean for 2nd setter? The staff is auditioning. Nobody is even close to Erik Shoji. My comment was more along the lines of off in the future. Erik must have another quad in him. 2nd setter...there are at least 2-3 options behind Christenson.

So, with all the talk about the OHs...is this weekend an audition for the three OHs (sorry Jake...you’re not included) to see who will be on the VNL Finals roster?? I’m thinking only 2 of the 3 will be there (let’s assume Russell is back). Or would he take all 3 and leave behind a second Libero?

U.S. Men's Roster for Bulgaria 4 Jeff Jendryk (MB, 6-10, Wheaton, Ill., Loyola of Chicago) 8 T.J. DeFalco (OH, 6-5, Huntington Beach, Calif., Long Beach State) 9 Jake Langlois (OH, 6-10, San Jose, Calif., BYU) 13 Ben Patch (Opp, 6-8, Provo, Utah, BYU) 14 Micah Ma'a (S, 6-3, Kaneohe, Hawaii, UCLA) 16 Josh Tuaniga (S, 6-3, Long Beach, Calif., Long Beach State) 17 Thomas Jaeschke (OH, 6-6, Wheaton, Ill., Loyola) 18 Garrett Muagututia (OH, 6-5, Oceanside, Calif., UCLA) 19 Taylor Averill (MB, 6-7, San Jose, Calif., Hawaii) 21 Dustin Watten (L, 6-0, Long Beach, Calif., Long Beach State) 24 Kyle Dagostino (L, 5-9, Tampa, Fla., Stanford) 25 Kyle Russell (Opp, 6-9, Loomis, Calif., UC Irvine) 29 Price Jarman (MB, 6-9, Las Vegas, Nev., BYU) 30 George Huhmann (MB, 6-11, St. Louis, Mo., Princeton) As I hoped, the Big Guns are all back training together in Anaheim.

My question was around the three OHs that traveled to Bulgaria...Jaeschke, Muagututia, and DeFalco. Sander and Russell (it healthy) are obviously in California training and will be in the Finals. I assume they will take four OHs to Chicago, so who gets left off??

What's the timeframe of the finals? If matches are played back to back then we would use all 4 outside hitters, making the defalco vs muagututia debate more important. Personally I see more in Defalco and think that his passing is close enough to Muagututia's such that his superior offense sets him apart.

Let’s see how Jaeschke does this week. He has played only one game against Japan backups, not much to prove anything. Who knows maybe Muagututia and DeFalco got to go (this one VNL finals)

In hindsight, heavily utilizing Muagututia may actually be precautionary. At least he can pass. Compared to alternatives like Langlois

But he may have a pass similar to Aaron Russell and will be there no matter what as proven/known players. This maybe at least gives the weekend a tiny bit of intrigue! Haha! Looking forward to seeing Ma’a this weekend as setter!

Reports put Stahl out 6-8 weeks. I feel like he was getting better/in a groove pre-injury
