Honestly with the USA guaranteed a finals spot I will be pretty bummed if Speraw even has any of the vets on any of these preliminary rosters. Let these young guns get out there and play. Travel Sander and maybe Smith. Rest the remaining senior roster. Also can someone break down this roster by position? The VNL website doesnāt list that info. I donāt know a lot of these younger roster members. I agree! Rest the ones that are just getting back from overseas (some arenāt even back in Anaheim yet Iām guessing), rest Jaeschke to make sure that knee is healed since I donāt think itās been a year since he tore the ACL, and play the young ones to see what they can do. You know what youāre getting from the āA Squad.ā VNL travel is brutal and there isnāt much of a break for those playing pro. We donāt need more injuries due to wear and tear a year out from Tokyo.

I don't know much about enriques, but having watched D'Agostino live, he was outstanding and clearly stood out on the floor even as a libero. I'm not sure Shaw has enough experience as an OPP to warrant a look yet for the international team, perhaps next year. I really would like to see how Chavers' game translates at the pro level.

14-man Roster can be changed week to week from the base 25, right?

He's helping the Nebraska coaching staff. Brinkley is done too -- moved into real estate. The one area I think USA Volleyball missed the mark as far as development is the libero role. Yes, Shoji is great and has plenty of life left in the spot but I don't think we developed anyone else to take that spot besides Watten, who has less life left in his career than Shoji. Maybe a change will come with Dagostino and Tuileta.

Sander just doesn't have what it takes to be a leader. It doesn't mean he's not a good player. If captaincy is about seniority we repeat another cycle of uninspired volleyball when we needed it the most. A leader inspires his team. Sander is just a follower. Team USA never learns. I'm just going to go out on a limb and assume that you have never had a conversation with Taylor Sander lasting more than 20 seconds?Ā Probably a safe bet. I mean, the last time the US won gold in World League, I believe it was Sander who led the team to victory with insanely good play. And in Rio, when the team was struggling out of pool play, it was Sander who elevated his game so we could best Brazil in Rio. It was also Sander who brought consistent passing when everyone else struggled to even give us a shot at a medal. But you're right. He doesn't have what it takes to be a leader. He doesn't emote like you want. But Speraw hired a psychologist to help the team do just that- shorter peaks, shallower troughs. I'm pretty sure Speraw is in a better position to judge inspiration and leadership.

I kinda understand the lack of new OHs in the roster. With T Sander, A Russell and Jaeschke basically locking three spots, the only way for any new guy to break in is to best DeFalco, and thereās no one in college or just out of college that do that. From what I know, Wieczorek is training in Anaheim. My guess is he will play Pan Am Cup and needs to prove himself in order to slowly climb the ladder

Also, Joes Worsley is training as well. He is likely to play Pan Am Cup. That setter position is an even longer line with Maāa and Tuaniga ahead and Michael Saeta coming back from a fantastic season
