With the VNL essentially being meaningless this year (there will be no ranking points assigned to it, as what ended up being the case last year), many teams will be resting their regulars to get ready for the World Cup and Olympic Qualifiers. All really good points but this last may be adjusted if a team makes it to the finals. Considering there is a nice chunck of $$$ which was upped from $4 million to $7 Million (if I read correctly)hanging out there for various federations to take in, so that always motivates a lttle. This will give teams to develop some much needed depth against quality competition. I dont expect to see Anderson nor Russell and perhaps Holt until late June on an active roster.

Surprised that JT Hatch, Jake Arnitz, and Jake Hanes are nowhere to be seen. More surpised by the lack of Cody Kessel. He had a great season in Luneburg.

And Price Jarman over Gasman and Amado? Yes. He made a lot of progress this year in Brazil.

Why is Sander captain again? He's giving off the wrong vibes whenever he's playing. Man... Again with the Sander trashing. It's become a tradition. He's the most veteran player on the team that is likely to be active through the whole tournament. Could be simply that. On his demeanor, he is one of the most even-keeled players the US team has. The one exception I've seen is last year's VNL with Poland. But honestly, Poland (read: Kubiak) pisses off literally everyone in international Vball. But his highs aren't thump the table and his lows aren't depths of pity. That's helpful in a captain. Volkov is the youngest captain? Volkov and Kubiak pissed off their opponents but not their team. Sander just doesn't have what it takes to be a leader. It doesn't mean he's not a good player. If captaincy is about seniority we repeat another cycle of uninspired volleyball when we needed it the most. A leader inspires his team. Sander is just a follower. Team USA never learns.

Honestly with the USA guaranteed a finals spot I will be pretty bummed if Speraw even has any of the vets on any of these preliminary rosters. Let these young guns get out there and play. Travel Sander and maybe Smith. Rest the remaining senior roster.
Also can someone break down this roster by position? The VNL website doesn’t list that info. I don’t know a lot of these younger roster members.

As was mentioned earlier by bahkawdi, everybody but Clark, Tulieta, Dagostino, and Muagututia were playing pro or at Long Beach State/UCLA at the time. Muagututia went over to Greece in January, but this didn't seem like a tryout for anyone already in that pipeline.
