If you haven't already check out the thread w/ the VolleyballMag.com article and Viral Volley Podcast with Tina (I promise I'm not self-promoting). My sense speaking with her on and off cam is that she's sticking around USC to get her degree and she said it-- to win National Championship(s). volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/82077/graudina-beach-champs-viral-volley?page=1&scrollTo=2396744That USC roster is loaded for 2021. Dain has a good problem with his pairs. It's just finding the right chemistry. IF some of the younger ladies wanted to maximize their eligibility (because we know that USC will continue to have winning teams) they would be wise to redshirt this year and hope there aren't any other talented 5th-year transfers coming in-- but that's just my 2 cents-- and God knows I'm wrong more often than I'd like to be. Good point, Rob your insight is always correct. Don't understand why these players are trying to stay in undergrad so long. If you are good enough, go pro and let the college age kids have their college play. I read somewhere that Sckoles redshirted 3 times somehow, this simply should not be allowed. The girls who have worked to be in college at the right age should have their shot. Someone else said on another discussion that these girls are purposely finding ways to redshirt so they can get better and maybe have a shot at college when they weren't good enough at the appropriate college age. If you are good then go pro don't steal the show for the appropriate age college athlete. I could imagine it doesn't make for a good team relationship with players that are so old. vb1999 I had Julia on with Hailey after they won the Waupaca Tournament and we talked off cam because I was curious also. Julia graduated HS in 2016, played at UNC her FR year, had a medical redshirt her SO year since she suffered from concussions. She didn't want to quit VB but didn't want to risk her health indoor so she ventured over into the beach game (she hadn't been playing long) so she transferred to UH for her JR/SR years, then transferred to USC for her 5th year (and it sounds like the degree program she wanted to pursue is a better fit for her-- I just can't remember what it was but it's in the podcast. Of course, we all know COVID hit and well, she'll be on the court for the Trojans in 2021-- assuming we can resume "life in volley" again. volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/81581/hailey-harward-scoles-waupaca-champs

USC Athletics should always be about competition, with the best rising. Ultimately, it’s the coach’s decision to balance the roster, load up any given year for a championship run, or Rebuild and play the younger kids for the future growth. Given Tina’s limited availability, now is the time for USC Beach and that championship run. 😆✌️ There’s always two sides to the coin... when you talk going pro, for the vast majority of beach players there isn’t a lucrative career right now. Most play for love of the game/lifestyle, I’m guessing. On the flip side, if your daughter was offered free/discounted graduate school for 2 years, wouldn’t that make long term sense and provide invaluable training for a “real” career?

In this mini-pod episode, USC Beach graduate student Hailey Harward discusses her's and partner, Julia Scoles' success in a couple of big tournaments this last summer: Waupaca, and the AVP America in Myrtle Beach, SC. Their extremely "fresh" partnership has resulted in 2 tournament championships in 2 attempts. Additionally, being back on campus means having roommates, one of them being summer-partner, Julia, but also having a 2021 Olympian for Latvia and international super star, Tina Graudina, who tested false-positive for COVID for the King of the Beach Tournament in Utrecht, Netherlands. Hailey gives us a little insight of what the 2021 Trojan Collegiate Beach team's potential given a vast array of talent. NOTE: I was asked to be interviewed for a "School Assignment" for Hailey and I turned it into an impromptu mini-interview. iTunes: Coming soon... If you are good then go pro don't steal the show for the appropriate age college athlete. I could imagine it doesn't make for a good team relationship with players that are so old. @vb1999 you are misinformed about Julia Scoles. Furthermore, she had every right to redshirt (medical) after devastating series of concussions. She played two years at UH after basically playing only her freshman year indoor. She is entitled to play her 4 years like anyone else under NCAA. “College age” is not limited to 18-21 year olds (or whatever you consider “college age” to be). If you are a student athlete in school, working on an undergrad or Masters (whatever), you are (mostly) school age. As far as I know, the NCAA does not stipulate that a 22 or 23 year old cannot play (assuming they meet the other eligibility requirements). Tina Graudina is 22. I am guessing you have a problem with her playing as well (since she is a pro)? With Julia, she is a relative newcomer to beach (in her 3rd beach season), it probably makes sense for her to get “collegiate” level experience (and further her education), before going pro. Furthermore, college can be a stepping stone to playing pro. For many players it makes sense to play out their college eligibility before going pro because even elite players have a tough road making it in the pro ranks (paying their own expenses aside). Why not take advantage of an elite college coaching (and education) if you can get it? If I recall, this isn’t the first time you have tried to put down “older players” for taking advantage of their eligibility rights. Do you perhaps have a daughter not getting playing time as a result? You make the point that if a player is good enough they should play pro. Does that apply to a player whose good enough to play pro at say, 19 years old (maybe someone like Abby Van Winkle could play pro)? The fact is, it doesn’t matter what age you are, if you are good enough, you’ll make the starting pairs (or if you are good enough to go pro when you exhaust your eligibility...). Not all the younger “college age” players are going to get playing time. They have to earn it. Some players are never good enough, and some work hard for 3-4 years to earn their starting spot. If it’s within the rules, it’s all fair. May the best players play.

I believe Tatiana Rusich and Savannah Davis signed as well. So that would leave Eden McCoy? And still no 2021 roster posted.

It’s nice to see that Coach Collier put a congrats in there for these girls she likely recruited. I believe they all committed 2-3 years ago while she was still head coach.
