Your reading comprehension is terrible. Here are some facts for you: there have been 4 highly-recruited setters (aka Top 20 national overall recruits) in Sealy's tenure - Moenoa, Strehlow, Muno, MIller. Zero of turned out to be great setters at UCLA, and most of them ended up losing the job to a less heralded transfer. Strehlow and Miller both transferred out ad proved to be way better at other schools once they left UCLA. When UCLA has been most successful under Sealy, it's when he's had a mid-major transfer running the team (Van Orden, Chandler, Sponcil, Muno). Elite setters recruited by Sealy don't play well, relatively unheralded mid-major transfers do. THAT'S ALL ANYONE'S BEEN TRYING TO SAY, and specifically no one is saying that each setter that's gone through his program has been bad. You're taking it into some weird tangents bringing up personal grudges against the coach or assists per set in trying to deny that. This is way off base. Muno was never recruited as a setter. She was a utility player who was expected to eventually be the Libero. Strehlow did absolutely nothing at Pepperdine. Moenoa was always injured. Miller didn't really do a whole lot at Minnesota, though that was mostly due to missing a lot of matches with a concussion, but she never played good enough at UCLA to establish herself as the #1 setter. Sometimes players not living up to expectations are the fault of the player, not the coach. When a coach can take an unheralded setter like Lauren Van Orden and turn her into a National Champion, or take an OH like Sarah Sponcil and make her into an All-American setter, that tells me that is a coach who can develop setters. Ah yes, the first thing I think when I read Strehlow’s Pepperdine bio is “she did absolutely nothing.” pepperdinewaves.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/becca-strehlow/1853Also: “Zana is an amazing volleyball player,” Sealy said. “She has had a lot of success both indoor and on the beach. We are bringing her in to fill a role at that setter position. I love her athleticism and her ability to run a team.”

Strehlow's *career* stat-line at Pepperdine 1.20 kill/s 9.58 assist/s 0.15 ace/s 3.24 dig/s 0.77 block/s Sorry to clog up this thread even more, but, those numbers are good and cannot be disrespected.

Those numbers don’t look much different than Moenoa. Strehlow also had some record breaking numbers her freshman year at UCLA. Maybe Strehlow just wanted to transfer to play beach with Dykstra and everyone on Volleytalk is just speculating about what they don’t really know anything about?

But I do see the UCLA records broken for game hitting percentage set by her in her Freshman year. I don’t want to keep beating a dead horse because i think it’s been settled that all feelings against being a setter under Sealy are mostly speculative as no one has been able to give real reasons to their feelings outside of a handful of recruited setters not being 1st team all americans upon graduation. Honestly the entire Sealy Sucks campaign on VT should just die

Dang it was only between Texas and USC (I feel like we always lose that battle). I wonder why no UCLA?

I can’t say I’m all that surprised picking usc. She’s a cali girl and I think that’s the program that needs it the most. Texas had a lot of draw for her tho, playing with her cousin and having friends from YNT. But Cabello and Gabriel on the current roster, may have been reason for pause. But good get for usc...
Botkin is coming back for another year and thank god, she deserves to finally get a good setter

Adonia Faumuina (2022) was recruited as a setter, but she’s also been listed as a OH. I wonder if the is will change things for her.
