I have no idea about how Cincy plays. Obviously, Thompson is YUGE for them and they feed her often. But do they have other nice pieces to fit in with her? How is their passing? Can they serve tough and make it hard for the Kitty Lions to use their middles? For the Kitties, who gets the blocking assignment on Thompson? One nice thing about this match, it's at a very neutral site ... both teams have to fly pretty big miles to get here (Palo Alto), and both won't have many fans @ Maples supporting them. Cincinnati wins matches at the outside pin. Much overlooked because of Thompson is Maria Mallon. She is the key to an upset here. She is a great defensive player and is the major other offensive provider. Her and Jordan combine for over 10 kills a set. They also both serve very tough — Mallon is a topspin jumper while Thompson is a tough jump float. Cincy practically never sets one of their MB — while the other is pretty decent on the slide. Their RS is “okay”. A major key besides Mallon will be Heckenmueller. She’s a maligned setter and it doesn’t come without validity. But, she did pretty well against Pittsburgh. If she can hold up good enough Thompson will get her kills, but will Mallon against PSU? Their passing and defense is okay — nothing special. Their blocking is pretty weak. Cincinnati is a very interesting team. If their outsides produce and are on they have a chance against anyone.

Pretty much the only synopsis I've read on Cinci. www.dignittanyvolleyball.com/talking-head-talks-cincinnati-and-penn-state-part-1/Any others out there who know more about this team please chime in. I'd ask Fish but...well you know. 🤕 Our resident AAC expert trojansc might have some insight

A Utah/Cincy regional final would be very exciting, other than the mostly empty arena.

Idk about ya’ll but if Jordan Thompson wins this match, she should automatically be NPOY. No questions asked.

Does Thompson drop 50 kills this match? In 3? 😎

It'll be really interesting to see what wins out- very strong pins or very strong middles.
I think Cincy has a shot if they can stay in system. OOS sets against Pitt were shaky and it hurt them.

Here is Cincinnati's strategy: set Thompson 90-100x...and that's IT! And they keep on winning.

I don't see Cincinatti winning this match. Thompson is great, obviously, but they'll need a lot from the rest of the team to have a chance... PSU will just score too much (particularly through the middle) for Cinci to keep up.
PSU in 3, maybe 4.

A 5'9" OH in Mallon and a 5'7" setter in Heckenmueller? Russ will feast on those match ups.
On a side note, I get goosebumps thinking how good PSU could be this year with J. Thompson as OH.
