After hearing so much about Thompson and never really seeing her play, I checked out some of the YouTube videos of her along with the women's Olympic team this summer, and I was totally blown away. Now of course, she was taking sets from Carlini in all these videos, but wow, she's basically as good OOS as in-system, she can hit from anywhere on the floor. Infectious energy, looks like she is having an absolute blast out there. And her passing is surprisingly solid as well. I hope she doesn't get pigeonholed as a non-passing OPP too early. Team USA could really use a terminal left. Maybe her serve receive never gets to the level it needs to be, but she's competent enough to keep it as an option. I agree with you here. I’m always for non-traditional passing rotations. Quite a few internationally have adjusted to put their best passing lineup out there. China has had their OPP passing a few years ago. Dominicana had a MB passing in the backrow all summer — it makes the libero stay out an extra rotation on serve, but really stabilizes reception. But of course USA needs most a terminal pin more than great passing at this point, right?

If we continue to live or die by the ultra fast set to our opposite, then all that matters is passing

Current Better Odds (If anyone wants me to explain what the numbers mean let me know and I can) Straight up odds Penn State -855 Cincinnati +485 Spread bet Penn State -2.5 +115 Cincinnati +2.5 -155 Please do explain. I'm not a degenerate gambler, so this stuff is Greek to me. So anytime there is a negative number it means that team is the favorite. For instance, Penn St is -855, so that means that if you bet Penn State you would have to bet $855 to win $100. For Cincinnati at +485, if you bet $100, you would win $485. On the spread bets, Penn State is -2.5 so that means to win that bet Penn State would have to win by 2.5 sets so in essence would have to sweep. For Cincinnati, they would just have to win 1 set to cover the +2.5 spread. Hope that helps.

I really wish Stanford played first. If they lose to Utah I would totally root for Thompson but if Stanford wins I'm thinking Penn State would be the bigger obstacle for them getting to the Final 4.
