I'd also note, 4th in the Big 10 next year is still certainly "good" It's just Wisconsin and Nebraska will be *very* good and there are big expectations for Minnesota. Agreed 2 person serve receive has to go. I think this year will change. Wisconsin is the team to beat. Minnesota is next. Nebraska is a dumpster fire with all their transfers with more to come. I can see Michigan making waves. Illinois is going to struggle. Indiana will surprise as well as OSU. A team who played in a regional final, returns every key player and will have 3 starters who played in an NCAA final is a “dumpster fire” ? Maybe I’m old and out of touch but does a dumpster fire now mean really good?

While I respect an opinion, your comments are at odds with reality. Their level is and has been as sustainable as any program in the country, and their current leadership is the same as it’s been, and identical to the one that went to a regional final last year? Nothing suggests to me that they won’t compete for a big ten and national title like they pretty much do every year.

Agreed that on paper Nebraska has a better team. But I have confidence in this very talented rising Junior class that has made the Elite 8 the last two years {only to lose to the eventual National Champion}. I also have a strong belief that Coach Rose knows what he has and will have the players ready to go and compete for the B1G title, and a deep tournament run.

I can understand the disparity in expectations for Penn State, because this is a case of obvious strengths clashing with obvious question marks. You’ve got proven commodities at the two middle spots, setter, and wherever Parker ends up playing. Then you’ve got the glaring question marks at outside hitter (and right side, if Parker moves to the left), as well as DS and serve receive in general.
Your assessment of PSU in 2020 depends on how optimistically (or pessimistically) you view the question marks. Perhaps one of the young outside hitters steps up and can carry a heavy passing load. Suddenly PSU’s potential skyrockets. Maybe there’s some serious growing pains in serve receive and none of the hitters can alleviate it. Then PSU’s prospects aren’t as good.
It’s high ceiling, low floor (by PSU standards, anyway. It’s not like they’re going to finish in the bottom half of the conference). As someone trying to update 2020 previews for my Big Ten thread, this one is tough. Send me your best AC Fitzpatrick scouting reports, I guess. I don’t know.

For what it’s worth nobody has even said Nebraska was better. Just some odd comments regarding Nebraska team that weren’t even factual. I’ll be interested to see how good this PSU team will be. I know one thing, I’d never sleep on a Russ Rose coached team.

True, but I also don't think (if they're struggling with passing) they're locked into 4th. I could quite easily see Michigan, Purdue among others, pushing PSU. Yeah I've gotta say I'm VERY intrigued by that Michigan roster. Lots of talent. And if that roster was at Nebraska, Penn St, Minn, or even Illinois they might be a top 4 threat, but that roster at Michigan? . Is . . .what? . . . 6th or 7th? Sorry the past tells us the future.

That’s all fine and good until you stray out of your lane and talk about a culture you know nothing about. . . Talking about “culture”, how is Mike McQueary doing these days? Cheers!
