It's always funny to me when people respond to data with claims of bias. Hampton's 47% good pass percentage isn't a great reflection of that "caliber" (sic). I expect Bilinovic to take the job before Hampton leaves the school, but we'll have to see what happens. I'm sure you'll cheer for both of them, as I will. Your "data" is always skewed, out of context, and irrelevant. We get it -- Hampton passed 47% last season, which isn't on par for a "great" libero. But Bilinovic hasn't played a single set of college volleyball. How do you know she'll fare better? What "data" do you have to support that, other than her ranking on pvb.com? Irrelevant seems like a reach lol, you two need a weekend getaway together.

Irrelevant seems like a reach lol, you two need a weekend getaway together. "Irrelevant" isn't a reach... It's nonsense. Good pass percentage is entirely relevant to the libero position. It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Based on the posts I've seen since the season ended, the perception on VT seemed to be that Hampton was a) good in 2019 and b) locked in at the libero position in 2020. That perception is at odds with reality; in the last few months the coaching staff have been looking for a potential starter in the portal. They didn't get one but Rose will certainly be looking for more than 47% good pass percentage from his libero. If Rose thinks Hampton can do that, I expect she'll win the jersey but to say it isn't a competition, based on the Hampton's recent performance, the actions of the coaching staff and the incoming Bilinovic is obviously inaccurate. Ultimately I don't really care who wins the libero job. Based on what I've seen at USAHP I expect Bilinovic to play well but ultimately I'd like to see the strongest PSU team possible. I enjoy Rose's creativity with his roster and I'd like to see PSU challenge Wisconsin et al for the Big 10. The poster you quoted is just trying to manufacture an argument because he has nothing else to contribute to the conversation.

I have no vested interest in Bilinovic over Hampton, but PSU need more than 47% from their libero. 55% will likely be about the threshold (as it is for any top team at that position). You questioned data bias...your words...and yet you only have data on one kid comparing 2. Russ has had 2 back court kids on schollie numerous times in the same year. They always need multiple quality DS's ....like 3-4. Jenna also played hurt for much of the year last year and off season surgery immediately after the season ended. Even though she was hurt she started 114/117 SP (in the top 7) player......reception.....RE White.......446...........13 Holcomb......594..........31 Hampton......636..........21 Hampton was 4th on the team digs/set. Hampton healthy will be the Lib followed by a legion of tactical DS's That said I truly hope Bilinovic is as good as you feel she is. What were White's numbers as a Freshman and Sophomore. I can't recall her passing in a 2 person serve-recieve those those years. That was a hefty ask of an underclassman like Hampton. Hopefully she will be even better and the team will find replacements for seasoned vets like Sciora, White and Holcomb Can we assume that PSU won't pass 2 this year and we will see similar reception patterns to 2016 and 2017? If so, the passing lanes should be more defined and smaller which may ....may help.

Got bored so I figured I'd ask the group...
Could this years volleyball roster draw comparison to the 2010 National Championship team?
At OH - both teams were inexperienced and required strong play from a talented freshmen class At OPP- Blair Brown and Jonni Parker carry a large offense load for the team At MB - The 2010 team had 1 experienced All American middle, this years team has two OUTSTANDING middles At Setter - both players are undersized BUT Blossom is one of the best setters in the country At L and passing - a strength for the 2010 team... not sure about 2020

Unfortunately... agreed. I think PSU just isn't bringing in the kind of talent or leadership we did before and during that great 6-in-8 run. Pretty good team now, but just not on the level needed to win a title.

Seems like Slay, Scott, and McClendon were groomed to lead, add in the ultimate competitor of Hancock and her leadership and talent blossomed as well. It seems like after Gonzalez, Hancock, and Courtney it just hasn’t been the same. Also, it’s amazing how many of these ladies are still playing or coaching

I believe that our captains from last year, with an additional year of experience and knowledge of what it takes to win, are ready to step up and take a more active leadership role. The addition of Hannah Flowers should help as well.

Is this based on knowledge of the teams or on watching from the stands?
