Almost the entire Minnesota squad has gone to the Open Tryouts the past few years...assuming the school paid for it (I don't think it invitation only...I believe it is open to any US citizen who meets the criteria). Does Minnesota have a summer trip planned or something? Or maybe the school opted out of paying for everyone? It is surprising when you look at the number of MN players who participated in the past and no participation this year.
Of course, some players could get direct invites to practice with team (vs. open tryouts)...

Here's a link to the press release from last year -- 13 players to the open tryouts: gophersports.com/news/2019/2/26/volleyball-gophers-to-send-13-to-usa-tryouts.aspx . Basically everyone on the roster who was eligible (i.e. no Ziemann, since she's from New Zealand). Maybe USA Volleyball changed the format this year? As I recall, the Gophers had a bunch of players playing for USA teams over the summer -- Rollins and Samedy (and Barnes) for World University Games, Morgan and McGraw in Japan, and Pittman with the CNT in Anaheim. I'm guessing this was a matter of priorities for the team -- certainly players like Pittman and Samedy would have been offered the opportunity if it was by invitation only.

Personally, after last season with all the ups and downs, I feel this Gopher team will benefit more by staying home and practicing with their new Freshman additions to the roster. Fine tuning their skills can only help this team next season.
Now..Samedy is the only player to be invited to the USA tryouts. Is there anybody out there that honestly feels some other Gophers should have been invited besides her?
Before you answer that question, look at the caliber of talent it takes to make a USA Women's Volleyball team. I have one other Gopher player in mind. After the outstanding season she had this past year, hopefully, she can excel even more next year and make it to these tryouts too. I say to her, "keep working hard like you have been and believing in yourself and you too will get there".

Cc mcgraw was om the list i saw Second worst passing Libero in the Big 10 this year (only Pitsas of Northwestern was worse). McGraw needs to stay in Minnesota and work with the Gophers.

If she needs to work on passing so badly, wouldn’t it be beneficial for her to be exposed to new/different/unfamiliar serves outside of the Minnesota regulars?

If she needs to work on passing so badly, wouldn’t it be beneficial for her to be exposed to new/different/unfamiliar serves outside of the Minnesota regulars? Apparently not; she passed a 2.18 (second on the team behind Barnes' 2.22) in 2018 - for reference the best passers in conference pass 2.4+. Then she spent the summer with the CNT and this year she passed a 1.98 on the season and a 2.01 in conference (Pitsas passed 1.99 in conference). Sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, since I assume you watched the games, but UMN hit very well out of system and Kylie Miller (when healthy) did a very good job with bad passes but McGraw needs to pass a give better next year to give Shaffmaster a chance.

I do not know what Gopher team anyone who thinks they hit well out-of-system was watching. Just one of the many mysteries of the 2019 Gophers -- how they were able to win with poor passing, Miller out, and no Steph Samedy. Hart took some good swings, I guess, but out-of-system was never her strength.
Blocking helped. As did staying in points until they could get in system.

They blocked well, set well (when KM was on the floor), dug well and hit in transition well. You all know I have a plethora of stats to show these things. I haven't posted them because I had some pushback when I suggested McGraw not, in any way, worthy of an AA HM selection... But if you wanna see the analytics that express what the team did well and where they struggled, I can post them. Personally I think it's valuable because of the ways in which the roster is changing next year, but again, I have no vested interest in the Gophers one way or the other, so the data doesn't upset me.

McGraw had an odd season. She was hitting her stride and got injured (a concussion, I'd guess). She was always passing at least half of the court. But, yes, she really struggled the 2nd half, just like she did her frosh season. I don't think it's fair, however, to put this all on her.
Samedy was terrible in 2019. I'm sorry, but she was. Stats are misleading if they tell you otherwise, imo.
I don't think they hit well out-of-system.
And they made the final four. Full credit to the team for that.
Not looking to argue about your analytics or your conclusions. Just adding my two cents. FWIW.

No kidding it does not require an apology. Bigwest might be a genius at reading stats but isn’t so good at reading words. I was one who “pushed back” but I certainly did not “push back” at his/her saying MCGraw was not worthy of the AA HM.
