Hard to believe first match of the next season is only about four months away. Would love to see Samedy and Pittman back. If Pittman leaves, I expect Hugh looks for transfer who can actually be part of the offense. The fact that CC didn't even travel with the team is bizarre to me. Hope she doesn't need reconstructive surgery on her knee. Otherwise she's likely out til '22 (assuming she'd take a redshirt). That's actually crazy to think about. Sheesh. This season was/is chaos, and they'll be jumping back in soon enough. Samedy can absolutely kill it in the pros, but hey, so could Pressley and she's coming back. Anyone's guess, and only her decision matters. Pittman's been at the U for a while now. If she moves on, no doubt she'll do great things.

I'm sure Minnesota fans would love to have Samedy back, but as a USA fan, I would really love to see her go pro ASAP. IMO, she should start adapting to the speed of the pro game as fast as possible to prepare for Paris 2024. While I'm sure Minnesota fans would love to see her lead a team to a championship, I think she's pretty much exhausted everything she could do in the NCAA personally. Of course, it's up to her what she wants to do. Has Samedy even been invited to the gym? She's made top CNT rosters, but that's all I know. I could probably care less about the NT, but my understanding is it's stacked at OPP. That being said, it'd be a joy for her to come back with a little extra fire or have a successful pro career. She's a gem.

That second set really threw me. I thought we played well enough in the first to build off and put Pittsburgh away in the match.
But I thought we sort of stunk in almost every way in the second. It did not make any sense to me for them to look like that in a sweet sixteen match when it looked like we had enough on the day to win.

CC was announced as "day-to-day" over two weeks ago and then isn't even on the sidelines for the tournament. Really odd. Makes me wonder if she had surgery and we don't know about it. Even then, however, why wouldn't she be on the sidelines?

I miss CC.
The total absence of info is a bummer and makes me miss her a little more.

I miss CC. The total absence of info is a bummer and makes me miss her a little more. Speaking of which: Typically, we had to hear it from outside the program (Cook press conference) but it seems all but 3 Gophers had COVID. Trying to think who was always available: Samedy? Pittman? Kilkelly?

I miss CC. The total absence of info is a bummer and makes me miss her a little more. She's an emotional leader and has nice block coverage. Coulda used both. Of course, not if her knee is busted.

I am putting all decisions made or not made during this entire match onto Hugh's shoulders.
Obviously, we struggled as usual in serve/receive. Therefore, our setting game was off which led to our hitting game not at all like it should have been either. What we ended up with was a very non-confident team making errors upon errors upon errors. Playing not to lose instead of playing to win and what appeared to me had given up.
Why this head coach had a bench he could have called upon to possibly try to turn things around and didn't, we will never know. For me, I just do not understand it. It is apparent it is McCutcheon volleyball...changes if needed are rare.
Sure he could have tried Wenaas at Libero and moved Kilkelly to DS. Which might have taken some pressure off of the latter. There is no doubt it became a mind game with RK and she just collapsed instead of rising to the occasion. Pitt was not going to change tactics at all. They had a good thing going that 4th and 5th sets by continuously targeting her.
Then we have McMen and Miyabe who were not utilized at all. I truly feel Miyabe would have handled the pressure much better than Rubright even though she has not played MB much at all this season. McMen could have given us the opportunity to have more of a middle game and quick sets to the OH's even if we were OOS. Just putting them in for a few points might have put the momentum back on our side.
But, what do I know, I am not the coach!!! However, I do know I share an extreme disappointing outcome with these Gopher players. None of us wanted the dream to end and certainly not the way it did.

I know season ending upsets are hard to take. 2016 was devastating for Badger fans. We were worried that the program might drop off after that. Needless to say, although there were some bumps in 2017, it didn't. Hugh knows what he is doing (unfortunately) and has been a pain in our *&^%%(&$Ss for the most part. I don't see the Gophers going away, especially with another year of experience for your setter and a top 3 pin hitter ready to step in for 6 rotations. Yeah, today stinks, but there will be good days ahead, hopefully not against the Badgers!

I’m bummed for CC perhaps as much as I am for the seniors. The “day to day” thing kind of weirds me out. I know Hugh’s reputation is to be tight-lipped, and I also respect CC’s medical privacy, so I’m not trying to imply we’re entitled to answers. But calling her “day to day” when she isn’t even on the bench at the tournament? Doesn’t make sense to me.

Give it a couple more years to develop. It's not like they got swept by in the second round or something similar. I don't foresee a Minny 2014 type of thing happening, so should be well off enough at least.

Wenaas is the wildcard for this fall. Assuming Samedy does not come back, I wonder if there is any thought to moving Landfair to right side. I don't see how you can put the #3 recruit in the country back for a second season as a defensive specialist. Something has to give.

I don't see how you can put the #3 recruit in the country back for a second season as a defensive specialist. Something has to give. I think there has to be. Hugh has an international volleyball background. At that level, you assume a decent amount of ball control, so you often put your hammer on the right, from my understanding. The Gophers should be at least at that level of ball control, so I think it makes a lot of sense for them, and you explicitly make it clear to Landfair that it is to get her the best opportunities as the focal point of the offense going forward, as Samedy has been so successfully despite an "off" year by her lofty standards in 2019. This is all predicated on Samedy leaving, but I think she will, because I think someone (and by that I mean a lot of clubs) will want to pay a player who could have the type of insane kill and dig number matches that she has put up in a top college league in this country.

Thought they had figured some things out with the middle attack in the past month and maybe they could make a run to the Final Four. This one wasn't nearly as painful as the Oregon loss, but still.... Looking forward to Fall 2021.

It was surprising to see Pittsburgh outplay us at the end of games and in set 5. Finishing has been a strength to this team. I agree, during the 4th set I kept telling myself “We’re a 5th set team. We’re a 5th set team.” And yet there was no change in fire or drive to win. Really disappointed and wanted to prove everyone who thought Minnesota was seeded too high wrong.
