$$$$$$
So maybe that is why he would allow vball to have them. It's actually a revenue generating sport at the U, one of the very few schools in the country.

Rotational analysis of Pittsburgh match, fwiw. Real points. Kilkelly 10-8 Samedy 7-4 Rollins 5-5 but all 5 service points were in g1. Just not a good scoring rotation, but not giving up much either. Pittman 4-7. 0-3 in g1. This one still surprised me. I thought she was scoring a lot of points. Shaffmaster 6-12. More on this below. Landfair 8-5. G5 isolated was: Kilkelly 1-1 Samedy 2-0 Rollins 0-1 Pittman 0-1 Shaffmaster 0-3 Landfair 0-0 So a 3-6 loss. Scores were 13-9, 7-9, 12-7, 5-10, 3-6. So Ro1 did them in. That's Landfair, Rubright, Samedy in the front row. Kinda surprised they cannot side out in that Ro. It's not like Shaffmaster has a weak serve either. Ro2 also weak, with Shaffmaster, Landfair and Rubright. Ro3 was no great shakes either, after g1. That's Landfair, Pittman and Shaffmaster. Rollins was not serving tough after g1, as I recall. g4 was a really bad set and g2 a really bad start. One last stat: 15-24 with Landfair hitting OH, 25-17 with Rollins. I don't get what the first and second numbers indicate. If Killkelly was 10-8, it means they scored 10 times on her serve and had 8 what?? They scored 10 points on her serve and gave up 8 points after she served. It's service points scored by her and by Pittsburgh when she is in her service rotation.

Another interesting fact, they were 17-17 when Wenaas was on the court AND she doesn't play the service rotation. I know there are many factors involved with that, but -- at least for that match -- sure looks like they were a better team when she was on the floor.

Revenue-generating maybe, but not profitable. Universities are non-profit, as are their athletic departments. Every single school's athletic dept, right up to Texas, has a CFO employed whose job it is to make the books appear like they *aren't* taking in more money than they spend.

Not really surprising data for me for our last game of this season. Just solidifies my feelings that this program has a LOT OF REBUILDING starting next season. Nor would it suprise me if we had a /fifth/sixth place finish this fall. Just wonder how long down the road this program can rebuild before it too will take a hit with the fan base....IT IS MINNESOTA. I remember going to Diet Coke Classic sessions with more opponent fans in the stands and a total of 150 fans attending, if we were lucky.
With all the talk, I want Wenaas to stay. Personally I feel she has great awareness for the sport.
Rubright this year reminded me a lot of Pittman her Freshman year.....jumping around a lot and confused. Unfortunately, I do not believe she will have the Junior year Pittman had.
I am sure the previous data during the Pitt match was not what most of us expected with Pittman. However, she had become a team leader on the court and had to wear many hats all season. Her game just could not survive this year with all the issues we had.

I think the Gophers have a VERY loyal fanbase for which it would take a lot to lose their support. OTOH, I'm not sure the AD is doing a very good job of treating that very loyal fanbase well.
I am not worried about a serious drop in the program, unless Hugh were to leave. He's too good of a coach.
I would not judge Rubright on this season. Like I said, a very weird season -- and I think she was one of the players who had COVID.

The AD said he is willing to fund an extra scholarship or two for next year, so any 'Super Seniors' who return wouldn't count against us. I feel like we have room for more scholarship players. Do you have this in writing? He explicitly denied the softball team the exact same thing. Such a coward
Was told to me by one of the coaches. Other boosters heard it too.

I think it is the largest women's generating sport at Minnesota. In spite of fact administration is not helping. How is it being marketed? Do the local sport casters give it it share of media time? Are they moving the big games to larger venues? Are these covid-19 scholarships given out equally between women's and men's teams? Cook suggested the NCAA was in trouble over their treatment of women. I looked on the football coaches list counted 38 people on it. For 80 scholarships?? Why was basketball coach allowed to hire assistants but not the softball coach? Just venting.

WOW...any of us that just saw the Texas/Wisconsin match witnessed what an OUTSTANDING MIDDLE GAME can do for a program and look like. It was a fun match to watch.

We also saw arguably the BEST middle in the country basically get shut down and neutralized. A lot of factors go into having an OUTSTANDING MIDDLE GAME.

I'd also suggest that it was the pins who won this match. Yes, pins help middles be more effective (and vice versa) but it is REALLY hard to win with an elite middle as your primary offense.
Not saying anyone said anything contrary to this. Just blabbing.
