well, it's the elite 8, so you can expect a pretty good opponent, no matter. But Minn. had beaten Nebraska twice that October by 3-1 scores. Minn would have been the odds-on favorite against Nebraska. Obviously there's no way to know for sure but at the time I thought Minn's play was on a bit of a regression and Nebraska was playing very well. Throw in the adage that it's hard to beat a team three times in a row and it would've been by no means a slam dunk for Minn to win that game. This adage? fullpresscoverage.com/2021/01/11/dispelling-the-myth-of-beating-a-team-three-times-in-a-season/

I too thought the 2018 MN team was on the wane after mid-season. Up to then they would've whomped any team in the country. No idea what happened after mid-season. Barely beat OSU to clinch the BIG title and then lost to PSU. Even if they'd beaten Oregon, they'd likely have lost to Nebraska. It's all about getting hottest at the end of the season, not the beginning.

Their passing fell apart, IIRC, which is why their play suffered. Also what really hurt them against the Ducks. However, I think people forget just how well Oregon played in that match. Even with so-so passing, Minnesota was playing some really good ball for the first two sets and easily could have been up 2-0.
Kentucky absolutely laid an egg against the Huskers, otoh.

Oregon was playing extremely well. They came up with a game plan and executed it perfectly to beat us.
What I remember, I could be wrong, they picked up their serving and were targeting Samedy forcing SSS to set to the Middle and OH positions. Oregon's block was waiting everytime and we were unable to execute correctly and put the ball away. That's how I remember it. However, we all know as we get older in life, memory starts to fail us.

I don't think Samedy has ever passed in her career at Minnesota, not by design anyhow. How was she targeted? Tough serving will make the Gophers more left-side focused, true. But Hart had a decent match.
9 aces. Other passing stats not available.
My memory is probably worse than yours, however. Unfortunately, it was CC who really struggled that match.

Regardless if Taylor puts away that easy kill in set 2, they are up 2-0. She does that 99 times out of 100, imo. Unfortunately, this was the match for the anomaly.
Boxscore jumpers: Stone 20 kills, .500; Raskie 10 kills .444; Samedy 17 kills, but .211.
I hope this is the year Samedy really comes through in the NCAAs. She was great in 2020/2021 -- hope she's even better in 2021.

I'm referring to the plays, when Samedy was in the back right court, Oregon started serving to her. I felt it forced her to play the ball and pass, which was taking her out of the hitting position. This was all in the last set Oregon won and more so towards the end of that set.
I just remember talking to the gal I have season tickets with, what a brilliant call by the Oregon coach. SSS was forced to set the middle or outside, so he had his blockers camped out at the net every time. Our middles (TayMo and Pittman) did not perform that well down the stretch.
Think many Gopher fans were hoping with home court advantage, we would be able to reverse the defeat we had to Oregon at the beginning of the season. It was not meant to be.
Anyway, this is how I remembered that unfortunate match.

OK. I guess I think you are not remembering correctly. Samedy just does not pass. She is pretty well hidden. Wish I had a boxscore with receptions on it, but I do know she was not aced in that match.
