As soon as you use the word everyone you know your wrong;) I've heard nothing but good things about her since she committed. Coach McCutcheon thinks she can dish and run an offense. Even the critisisms I have read from BBall and one of his fans, admits that she is a good setter - but.... So no one I know has actually said she isn't a great setter. I think at 6'4" some think she should play right side but I trust McCutcheon to get the best out of these players. I also think that people are too quick to judge a tall player as slow but that just isn't true. It takes fewer steps to get into position when your that tall so that may be miss leading. Their are both quicker and slower tall players just like their are quicker and slower players at 6'. There will definitely be an adjustment period; I don't think she is as ready as SSS was. I'm really looking forward to seeing what she has. Were most of the criticisms of Shaffmaster as a setter made by bball? and stanfordvb with huskerjen jumping in once. The complaints of not jumpsetting and too slow. I have seen some clips and too slow is not an issue. She is tall enough that jumpsetting is not an issue either, so I have somewhat dismissed these criticisms even though BBall is more knowlegeable about recruits than I am. The fact may be that she isn't the best setter of her class at this time, but with good coaching and a great supporting cast I think she could be an excellent setter for Minnesota.

Shaffmaster jump setting. I can see a little bit of an argument, but she played with a middle Mykel Ivey who has been very generously listed at 5’11”. She’s very quick. Jumps pretty well but shaffmaster could’ve jump set and set the ball lower instead of staying on the ground and setting higher

Also, if we all think back to 2013/2014 these were a lot of the same criticisms of SSS. She was too slow, she couldn't set the middle, etc. And we all know how wrong that was. I am excited to see Shaffmaster and I bet she is going to be great.

All I'll say -- just one person's opinion -- is that people love tall setters until they don't. That is, they like the "idea" of a tall setter, but they want them to move like they are 5'10". You really can't have it both ways. No setter is great at everything, mainly because of the physical aspects of the position.
And, of course, that doesn't even touch on the more important part: the mental part.

It should be all volleyball ones! Seriously, can any athlete celebrate and be as joyful as volleyball athletes?

Not anything about Minnesota 2020 but does anyone know how is SSS doing with her club? I just read something on one of the other threads that she is fighting for a starting spot, which is kind of surprising considering she’s in France.

"Foecke (Firenze), Jones-Perry (Brescia), Rosenthal (Stuttgart), K. Rolfzen (Dresdner), Wong-Orantes (Schwerin), Seliger-Swenson (Beziers) and Wilhite-Parsons (Bauru) are still fighting to consistently start for their respective teams." Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/79468/womens-team-2019-season-thread?page=12#ixzz69dDq3gRZThis is the "other thread" right? - Just for reference. Surprised you didn't ask there first. Seems like the place to get the information.

To follow on that, I haven’t seen Shaffmaster at all but have heard conflicting feedback. Thoughts on her development? Is she coming early in the spring? Shaffmaster might need a Bit of development but I'm pumped to see landfair Will Landfair start? Or do they hold her for a year?

Not trying to be a smart alec but can you honestly name the last time a #1 overall recruit did not start at their respective school their freshman year? Heck, has it ever happened in the era of recruit rankings? Serious question.

Texas 2009 had Destinee Hooker and Julianne Faucette as OHs. Hard to crack that lineup.

Baird was also #2 and redshirted at Stanford this season. But I don't know a #1 who redshirted.

Considering she has some pretty serious competition at the pins, I wouldn’t be surprised of her not winning a starting role
