Not trying to be a smart alec but can you honestly name the last time a #1 overall recruit did not start at their respective school their freshman year? Heck, has it ever happened in the era of recruit rankings? Serious question. Considering she has some pretty serious competition at the pins, I wouldn’t be surprised of her not winning a starting role I can't imagine her not starting since she will be playing spring ball with Shaffmaster and will have a leg up on Wenass who won't arrive in MN until the Fall. Rollins could also be the one in jeopardy of losing a starting role, but I don't see that happening either unless both Frosh are stellar performers in practice.

Hugh typically gives returning starters preference at the beginning of the season and makes the newcomers earn their spot. He even made SSS set a 6-2 with Katie Schau at the start of the 2015 season before ultimately (finally) pulling the plug on Schau's setting before the start of conference. I don't see Rollins losing her spot to both freshmen for the first match, but if she under-performs I could see it happening at some point in the season as Wenaas develops. But hopefully both Rollins and Samedy find the magic again.

I think Landfair will start so long as there are no health issues. One poster, BuckysHeat, who keeps up with club ball, mentioned that she has developed a hitch in her swing. If that's is due to an overuse injury then maybe she doesn't start right away - but I doubt it. "It's Munciana and you have Jonni Parker opposite of Shaff. Of course they are running a 6-2. And yes Landfair is playing 6 ro left for SPVB but that video is old, her swing is much different now, she has developed a trailing hitch when she swings which this past club season made her much easier to block. I have not seen her play since June so am not sure if it is still there" Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/75349/future-minnesota?page=1#ixzz69hqdcqK7

Doesn't affect her production. I wonder if Hugh will tinker or if it's a "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" situation.

6' 4" is too tall for high level setting. Fewer OOS balls she'll be able to take overhand, jump setting's much more limited, and slower movement as already mentioned.
Could always be a first at that height but doubt it.

I will add that your point about OOS balls is interesting. It seems logical yet it has not been an issue for her. At the next level of play, faster offense and better serving, it could be an issue.

However, he helped Jordan Larson change her swing so if Landfair is planning on pro some day he will make sure she doesn't swing in such a way as to hurt her shoulder.

We do know he only had one off-season to work with her. I find it odd that SPRI, who is nothing if not all about fundamentals, hasn't done more. Not that I've seen her swing recently.

OMG I would be shocked if Hugh doesn't work on her swing. She drops her elbow and it does look kind of weird. He works on everyone's fundamentals coming in. Remember that approach video when Hannah Tapp demonstrated how Hugh was methodical on arm position for both approach and actual swing mechanics.
Landfair will be fine, but glad she's coming this spring.

Watching the UA Volleyball match right now. Definitely most impressed with Wenaas out of the three future Gopher players on Team Savage. Appears to be a take charge kind of player. Exactly what the Gophers can use.

Well, from the UA match, maybe good that Wenass the only one coming in the fall -- she looked the most polished -- I think spring will be really good for the other 2. I know it was only one match. Wenass looked really good!

I have a request. Can we stop this now? It's W-E-N-A-A-S.

Getting a good one in Wenaas I don’t know what all the talk about Landfair’s swing is about. Looked fine to me. While not effective tonight I can see it will be key for her to have really good setter-hitter connections.
