Poland could've and should've won this tournament. Good for Turkey though, we'll see which version of them shows up to Tokyo True, but at the end of the day, it's how teams deliver on court that counts. Turkey should have beaten Germany in their 1st match in the qualification, but they didn't, because Germany simply out-played Turkey in that match. Poland had their chances in the fourth set against Turkey with several match points, but they just could not deliver when the time came. If you can't capitalize on your opportunities come crunch time, your opponent will punish you for it. That is volleyball, infuriating if you support Poland, but a huge relief if you are rooting for Turkey.

Wow, loved the standing ovation Mambru got when she subbed in! (Or was it B. Martinez leaving that got the cheering?) Mambru surprisingly has a TON of fans. They were calling for her to go into the game.

Santana is really good. Does she live in PR? Is there any chance she plays for USA? Daly Santana? Born and raised in PR. Yes — but I didn’t know if she planned on living in USA post-Minnesota.

Meryem Boz and Eda Erdem carried the team in the semi-finals with solid contributions from Baladin, Akoz and Gunes.
Today in the finals, Boz had an off game but Baladin handled most of the serves and her near perfect reception allowed Naz to run the middle every opportunity she got. Gunes and Eda were lights out. Baladin was also up to a 73% attack success rate. That's INSANE!
The whole team peaked at the right time. Akoz is one of the world’s s top Liberos and she is VITAL to this teams success.
Not gonna lie...I teared up a little when Ismailoglu scored the winning spike. That was retribution for not being allowed to compete in China during the IOQT.
I am stoked Turkey will be in the Olympics. Is Guidetti the the first coach to make back to back Olympics but coaching different countries?!

Korea wins the bid to the Olympics! I hope Korea gets another chance to medal, they lost to Japan in the bronze medal match in 2012. I hope they can deliver and can get a medal, although it certainly won't be easy. Still if they are in Pool A, they should have an easier time since that is the relatively easy pool. As for Thailand, props to these group of veterans who have led the rise of Thai volleyball over the last decade. They will be retiring after this tournament and I don't know who will be replacing them. Key players who have been with the team for over a decade, like Pleumjit Thinkaow, Nootsara Tomkom, Wilavan Apinyapong, Tikamporn Changkeaw, Malika Kanthong and Onuma Sittirak, they will be retiring. These players led to the rise of the Thais, beating strong teams like China, Korea and Italy for the first time. Their positive energy, sense of joy and never-give-up spirit is something I always admired. I was touched too when I saw some of these players in tears after the match (and also the Thai fans, I saw them sobbing after the match at the arena), knowing this will likely be their last game with the NT. Let's salute the Thai team and some of their most important players:

Crazy. Guidetti does it again. On paper, a pin trio of Baladin/Ismailoglu/Boz should not have gotten it done this week, but he got everything he could out of them. And Erdem was huge; she consistently leads her country. Turkey should put her on a stamp. That's what makes Guidetti such an amazing coach, he can deliver when it counts, even with a group of players that would otherwise not be able to do so.

www.toflyvolleyball.com/2020/01/guidetti-chama-holandesas-de-mimadas.htmlInteresting (likely a tabloid) interview from Guidetti.....not sure to it's validity but if it is true....GOOD FOR HIM for standing up for Morrison and Vermeulen and calling out the Dutch players for being "Spoiled". I couldn't be happier that the Dutch lost. Nevobo will likely be on the hunt for yet another coach instead of realizing that some of their players are past their prime and trusting a coach to make the right decision. Morrison chose to not exhaust his core group during the 2019 VNL and instead decided to train the Dutch youth instead. Apparently Guidetti didn't allow Meijners to compete for the Olympics when he took over the Dutch program in 2015 because she didn't want to continually participate with the team throughout the quad. This is the same reason we have not seen Neriman Ozsoy suit up for Turkey this quad. Guidetti rewards his players who are loyal and she didn't want to play in 2018 and 2019. I wonder if Zoran Terzić will have a similar mentality with Jovana Stevanović since she elected not to join Serbia last season? Ze Roberto will likely bring all of his "golden gals" back this year and I can't wait to watch them crash out of the OG. HAVE MORE FAITH IN YOUR YOUTH IN YOUR PROGRAM AND DEVELOP THEM! Rant. Over.

Congratulations to the Dominican Republic on a well-deserved win! Thank you! It’s sad because I really enjoy the posts of yours and other Canadian fans and really everyone who commented on this thread throughout. It’s sad more VTers don’t care about professional volleyball, but it also means we deal with less drama here and get more quality posts.

Yes — but I didn’t know if she planned on living in USA post-Minnesota. I think she’s lived in Puerto Rico since shortly after graduating from Minnesota. her family lives in PR and she lives in the US, but basically she lives in Italy, US and PR are more of a crash pad for the summer.
