With Heather Gneiting going on a mission, that opens a scholarship for this semester and next year. Wonder if HG will redshirt when she gets back (August 2021)?
Is Madi Robinson on scholarship? Anyone coming in early that could use HG’s scholarship this semester?

Anyone coming in early that could use HG’s scholarship this semester? According to this article from 2017, "Robinson has decided to play college volleyball at BYU, where she will be a preferred walk-on as a freshman with the expectation of a scholarship the following season."
So if that's true, she would have been on scholarship this year, though I don't know if, say, Whitney Bower coming a year early changed anything. Hard to say for sure, but I would guess Robinson is on scholarship now. So the extra scholarship could be used for another walk-on player, or they could look for a transfer.

They had a scholarship open up when Emily Bushman decided not to play. Not sure if that went to Bower or Robinson. Not sure if the red headed MB who is now doing track was in scholarship.

How do you project the two deep?

So @zazu or others probably have a better handle on who is committed for 2020. But here is a tentative list:
name year position height Madi Allen 2020 L 5-9 Leilani Dodson 2020 MB 6-2 Makayla Tolman 2020 OPP 6-3 Allie Hakes 2020 MB 6-4

How do you project the two deep? Lot of uncertainty about Libero obviously. Also, I don't know enough about the 2020 commits to guess whether some will step in immediately. Some guesses about the starters: L1 Taylen Nixon L2 Madi Robinson S Whitney Bower RS Kate Grimmer MB1 Kennedy Eschenberg MB2 Whitney Llarenas L Anyone's guess -> Morgan Bower, Grace Wee, or Madi Allen DS Dayton, Wee, or M. Bower
I'm guessing Nixon and Grimmer are just three rotation outsides. Left sides in the mix behind Nixon and Robinson: Dayton and Anderson I assume Right sides in the mix: BYU can always use Nixon on the RS, and also has Makayla Tolman coming in. Middles in the mix: You have two middles coming in I think: Leilani Dodson and Allie Hakes
Setter: Obviously W. Bower has this locked up, Tausinga is the backup and BYU's primary returning serving sub.

Madi Allen is very, very good. It would not surprise me if she were to be a four year starter at BYU, like Lake. Did Anderson redshirt? She was a top prospect out of high school and I don’t believe she saw the floor this year, so maybe she will be a redshirt freshman next year. Could be a good third option for OH. I expect Grimmer will probably be a lock as oppo but Tolman will be a strong option there too and I think she is at BYU starting this semester. Down the road BYU could use two right sides when their top 2021 setter recruit arrives. Would Olmstead use a 6-2 to put a bigger block up?

Looks like Anderson did redshirt, as she has no stats from last year. The 6-2 idea for 2021/2022 is interesting. Normally, I'm not a fan of it over just running a 5-1 with a good setter, but I suppose if they have two good right-side hitters and two good setters, it could be feasible. Out of curiosity, is it possible to just run a 5-1 with two opposites and one outside hitter? I would think it should be possible, but I'm not an expert on volleyball tactics.

Don't know where she is going, but she is transferring somewhere. Speculating somewhere else in Utah, I would guess UVU but not sure at this time.

That’s pretty surprising. It seems BYU transfers are rare. And she played a lot and would only have been looking at a bigger role next year with the graduation of Miller. Normally I’d expect a transfer considering a lesser program would be hoping for more playing time. Any idea the reason? Utah is the only in-state program on par with BYU.
