I love having Bush out there. Though she isn’t the tallest - she is quite athletic - seeing her blocks with the middle - she isn’t the liability you would think. She’s fast and runs a great offense.
Truth be told though they will be out looking for a backup, but do they have any scholarships left?

Purdue still plans to have an audience for football games. They plan to only open at 50% capacity. Can that also mean that they will let an audience watch volleyball games? I would hate to miss a season of volleyball. Hopefully season ticket holders have a chance to renew.

Love this. Newton has become a truly great player. The leap from sophomore season to junior season was phenomenal. I can't wait for how she'll be even greater, with an entire season playing 6-rotations under her belt, during her senior year.

http://instagram.com/p/CBQmgClAn95 I meant to share this the other day. Really excited to have three freshmen middle blockers coming in. Curious as to who will take that second middle spot with Johnson. This looks to be a solid group and, if none of them redshirt, we could be seeing all three getting chances to develop just like last year's three outside hitters.

I only think Johnson has a strong argument for a starting spot because she was a solid blocker last season, was actually pretty good attacking out of system, and I think we haven't seen her full potential. Plus she has the experience against B1G competition, but I'm willing to be wrong if two freshmen can come in and get the job done.

I know nothing...😀 However I think Johnson is likely to have one of the spots but she hasn’t really proven herself to be the undeniable choice as Moeller was the past couple of seasons. It’s still open imo. and will be a fun battle to watch.

I am fairly certain Cleveland will see time in the middle. I know she saw time there throughout the spring. The sophomore pins have all had experience playing in the Big Ten and provide a lot to the team chemistry and practice atmosphere. Two of them will not be on the bench this year in my opinion. The competition is between the freshman middles and Johnson. I have only seen two of the middles play and not recently, so I could not say how I think that will end up.

You really think Cleveland will see playing time in middle? As good as she was last year at OPP? I think this team would lose a lot if they don't have her on the floor for at least 4 rotations. I'm sure she played middle in the spring because, with the graduation of Mohler and Cuttino, we only had 1 middle on the roster (Johnson). The only way I see Cleveland playing middle is if they ran an offense like 2017 with D. Cuttino, where Cleveland would hit from the pins in the rotations where the setter is front row. And maybe sub in the back row when we're serving. I do see Chinn as the eventual OPP. I think she has the arm, the out of system shots, and she's a good blocker. Ellis and Koch most likely take over when Newton graduates. Ali Hornung comes in for the 2021 class and, with Schimerhorn's solid passing, the back row should be okay when Otec graduates.

I def agree that she will he staying on the pin. You see middles go to the pin occasionally but you hardly ever see pins move back into the middle

Maybe with more development but I am not sure. I say this just from watching her her senior season in the state championships. NDP played a somewhat odd offense and the pins played some time on the right because they had a setter/OH combo. Any way, Chinn looked very awkward hitting opposite, imo. But a lot of factors could have contributed to that too, maybe Shondell is prepping her? But i'd love to see her stay on the left.

I'm only guessing a move to OPP because she and Chen were brought in for the double sub late in the season (I can't remember which game) and she played on the right for a few rotations. I don't know if anyone else was training at OPP in case something happened to Cleveland. I think they like Ellis on the left and I said Koch on the left too because she was relatively the only of the three freshmen who was kept in serve receive whenever she was on the court. Otherwise, with Ellis and Chinn in the front row, Purdue only passed with two.

No way Dave moves Cleveland to the middle. Both her attacking and blocking on the right along with hitting the D allowed the Purdue offense to spread the court which allowed Newton to get more single blocker looks.
