I didn't even know they had a league It's actually the 6th highest ranked league in Europe according the the CEV ranking system. Usually their top two teams Alba Blaj and Bucuresti are the two that attract some high-mid profile foreign talent. Romania's National Team by contrast is ranked 17th in Europe and 38th in the world. CEV Champions League Ranking: 1. Turkey 2. Italy 3. Russia 4. Poland 5. France 6. Romania 7. Germany 8. Switzerland 9. Bulgaria 10. Belarus Yeah, not sure why I didn't know this. Were any Americans there last season?

Romania is adjacent to several Eastern European countries that produce good players but don't have any teams that pay as well as a couple of their top ones, which helps a lot.
I think Carmen Turlea was the last elite Romanian player.

I don't recall seeing a ton of their players playing outside of the domestic league though.

I'd love to see Witt throw her name in the libero race

If true, I would imagine SSS won't be the only American to struggle getting to their clubs. Seems like you will run into some trouble if you play in Italy or the rest of the European Union. I wonder how it would be to get to places like Turkey.

I wonder how it would be to get to places like Turkey. So far it seems like most of the Americans playing in Turkey are there. The Stanford crew in Dresden were having difficulty getting there, I haven't seen any news of that changing. Poulter is having difficulties getting to Italy according to Italian press

That's strange; the other American players Shelly Stafford and Izabella Rapacz made it to Poland without any problems

It isn't a rumor. It is official. That is so unfortunate. I will say that if SSS does eventually get over there, she will likely start ahead of Skorupa. The Polish vet didn't hold her place on court that well last season with Monza. She is clearly in the twilight of her career.

How much does everyone thinks the new pro league in the states is banking on rookies coming out to play? With the possibility of vball going to spring, wouldn’t this really hurt the new league?

Yeah, it definitely hurts with regards to the pool of players. Ironically, the AU model involved a bubble of sorts way before COVID-19 happened. If every conference DOES move to spring, one potential positive could be increased interest from the target audience, since we'd be more than a year removed from our last D1 volleyball fix. There are benefits and disadvantages to all of this.

SSS is still new to international ball

I agree with Reach, I was at a handful of Serie A matches last season and Monza did a poor job of transferring capable passer attackers. I will agree that Skorupa has never been a dynamic mover, but she has a very good mind for the position and is still a much higher quality setter than Selinger Swenson with a much larger resume of success in some of Europe's best competitions. In my opinion this a a blessing. I have a hard time seeing Selinger Swenson moving past a Polish, German or French league.
