JVA WC is still on at the moment according to JVA. I find it unlikely it will actually happen though. It's very confusing because if you followed my link to AES, it shows the tournament to be cancelled JVA has also been cancelled, they are doing a virtual version later on.

Sigh. At at this point they're just playing chicken with the convention center. I think the OCCC may not be looking at the big picture IF they're holding onto monies vs refunding or crediting, as maybe this is sparking some animosity with AAU and them. Just a theory but my gut says that in the next few years AAU may be looking for a new venue. A change of scenery may be good, maybe too many years in Orlando.

I'm certainly no expert on the contracts that are signed to rent out big convention centers, but if the OCCC was responsible for telling AAU that the original June dates weren't going to work, why would AAU accept an alternate date? To me, changing the date makes it seem to me like AAU is as much a part of the problem.

If teams want to go and local and state health officials say it’s ok, why is AAU the bad guy for providing a service that people want? Is the implication that they should know better than health officials?

I intended for that statement to counter the "the AAU is just holding out until the OCCC cancels so they can get their deposit/$ back" argument. Unfortunately, my own bias found its way in which was a mistake on my part.

Well, Lake Buena Vista. Walking distance to Disney Springs. So literally that. Plus only McCormick Center in Chicago is bigger than OOCC in the states. I don't know if Chicago has the same pull for those Hawaii teams that bring the entire ohana that Orlando and Disney can pull. Chicago is amazing in the summer but....

I didn't know that about McCormick being larger. Or AAU HQ. Seems like they're bent over a barrel.

No CC is going to deny an event’s ability to get out of the contract. Especially as they have a little f standing g relationship, and AAU will be there for years to come. AAU, USAV, the qualifiers - all want to have their events. That’s the only time they have all year to make money.
