Our players won't "improve" if there are no pro leagues, e.g., Italian League, for them to play in due to Covid-19. On the other hand, athletes from all nations are on the same boat.

Foluke ans Larson can continue a few more years if they want. Daniel Scott played in her 5th Olympic post baby at 39 and was pretty damn good.

Larson has been the glue that has held this team together for a long time. I’m not convinced this is a net positive for this team. She could come back as a bro if she wanted. She could play another pro season make a half million and hang em up after olympics. Who knows, she doesn’t need the money or the Olympic experience but who knows if she has the fire to go another year.

Not sure “good news” is a term that applies, but I certainly get your point. The more time the current group has time to improve the better. China, Serbia and Italy are all better but have players aging at key areas whereas Team USA is definitely younger at most positions. A sad day to be sure but the right decision was likely made for the health and safety of everyone involved. This is not better for the US at all. You don't even understand how many good players there are around the world that are currently playing n Europe and Asia that re under 21. China will just reload and this will be good for Italy as they can have there younger players develop. Serbia has a trio of OH that can be very good in a year and Brazil will just get better.

I understand that our youth will be better in 2021.

This definitely changes things both bad and good for all teams. Everyone is in the same boat. All teams will have more time to develop youth depending on when pro leagues start back up again. If they don't then National federations will hopefully be able to at least train in an isolated area. I do feel that this postponement does help the USA more than hurt them.

Are we certain its going to be 2021? And Summer 2021 to be precise? Logically, that would be the mostly likely case. But the news article only said "likely 2021"...hardly a solid confirmation.

Are we certain its going to be 2021? There are very few if any certainties nowadays.

I'm mostly concerned about the OH slot, as what other posters have stressed. I think Larson WOULD still delay that retirement plan for at least 1 more year but Hill? I don't really think she's that committed to want to play a year more. Hopefully, both return. I'm certain Michele and Kelsey will stick it out. Foluke, I think so, yes.

Can I say I’m just really personally bummed? Because I am. We’ve been saving up to go and planning this since 2013. We had tickets to 20+ different events, including all the women’s VB quarterfinals, semifinals, and women’s and men’s ‘s VB medal matches. We splashed out on not-coach flights to Tokyo. We’d arranged three weeks of childcare. It was gonna be amazing. And now it’s... IDK what.

Leaving this up in the air doesn't really help the athletes one bit. That looks like it was their intent - to announce the postponement and the new date at the same time. Dick Pound seemed to leak information that wasn't supposed to be public yet.

I am taking some solace in the fact that the leak came from a gentleman named Dick Pound.
