This definitely changes things both bad and good for all teams. Everyone is in the same boat. All teams will have more time to develop youth depending on when pro leagues start back up again. If they don't then National federations will hopefully be able to at least train in an isolated area. I do feel that this postponement does help the USA more than hurt them. I think this will benefit most teams except maybe Brazil who more than likely were planning on bringing their vets (Thaisa, Fabiana, Sheilla, Dani Lins, etc) this summer. Not sure if they have enough in their tank to wait another year. Russia might have a few vets possibly ready to retire as well.

Can I say I’m just really personally bummed? Because I am. We’ve been saving up to go and planning this since 2013. We had tickets to 20+ different events, including all the women’s VB quarterfinals, semifinals, and women’s and men’s ‘s VB medal matches. We splashed out on not-coach flights to Tokyo. We’d arranged three weeks of childcare. It was gonna be amazing. And now it’s... IDK what. I'm bummed as a fan, but this is just so sad. My heart breaks for you, rainbowbadger. Hopefully you can make it to 2021?

I expressed my concerns about Olympics/Corona on Feb 1st but back then people started arguing with me, saying China and Japan were not so close ... Now I guess, everyone already realized the whole world nowadays is "way too close". Looking at the majority posts above, I have a feeling most people don't take it seriously yet - most are about what advantage/disadvantage a certain team may/may not have in 2021??? It does have some reason because USA was one of the last countries that got impacted. As of today who can say when it will be gone and what would be the real damages? Economy is already on toes - travel, tourism, entertainment and sports businesses are all shut down. Billions of dollars invested are already totally lost. Do you believe everything will recover in 1 year? ... I don't. I wish everyone stays healthy!!!

Alright, well the USA gym has over a full year to teach Thompson/Plummer how to terminate an OOS ball on the right side.

I feel like this will light a fire under some players. Not that none of them aren't competing for their spot but I mean this will give younger players an excellent opportunity to shoot their shot for a spot on the roster next summer. Plummer, Hentz and many others. It should be interesting!! Im excited to find out but its a while away!!

Suddenly, the Pan Am Cup could actually be a very exciting event. Scheduled to begin August 28th in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Who would have thought, after we were expecting the VNL and Olympics, and the Pan Am Cup would just have been an irrelevant NORCECA Post-Tokyo tournament.
Now, should it actually take place, looks like an important event for USA and DR to get back into shape and prepare for their Tokyo run the following year. This is also right when NCAA season starts, so hopefully we will get our volleyball back in late August.

Also, "not-coach flights" tend to be refundable/changeable, although I have no idea what your specific circumstances are. I have friends who had tickets to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. and just walked away from their non-refundable flights earlier this year.

Is the VNL guaranteed to happen? (Well of course not, but ya know what I mean) It just said after the Olympics, and now the Olympics was postponed too. It’ll be interesting.

My suggestion, each individual sport should have their own Olympics, at a location and date, that way some competitions can get underway sooner than later. It may not be on a grand scale but it may be in a more timely manner for sports fans and athletes.
