Good news, gives our young setters, middles and opposites time to grow. Allows time to fill the libero position.
The bad, out outsides are all getting older and older.

China, Serbia and Italy are all better but have players aging at key areas whereas Team USA is definitely younger at most positions. A sad day to be sure but the right decision was likely made for the health and safety of everyone involved.

Maybe Foluke WILL work into the lineup? I personally felt it was going to be super difficult for her to bounce back, not impossible. I also wonder if some of the current roster will opt to retire early, mostly Kim Hill... I think she would have to retire for their to be a real spot opened up for someone like Plummer...

Larson has been the glue that has held this team together for a long time. I’m not convinced this is a net positive for this team.

Good news, gives our young setters, middles and opposites time to grow. Allows time to fill the libero position. The bad, out outsides are all getting older and older. The age of the team's leadership is definitely the thing I have thought most about relating to a 1-year postponement. At some point, we all hit a wall athletically and the fall can happen quickly. For me, that wall probably hit when I was 10. Larson and Foluke are the bigger risks here as they're both already over 30. While 30 is not a career death sentence, things typically don't improve after 30 for anyone. Hill and MBH will be 31 if the games take place next summer. Adams may be 30 by then as well. Hill has already been talking retirement. I will be curious to see whether this brings younger players more into the mix. Mostly thinking about Foecke, Plummer and Rettke. Assuming the NCAA season takes place as planned, if Rettke is on pace to graduate in December she could try to catch on with a pro team in January like Plummer and Thompson did. Do they close the gap enough to have a real chance? And, do any new liberos get more play now that there is more time? Kendall White or Hentz? It is unfortunate that this has all happened, but such is life. As long as they don't cancel it altogether, which would break hearts of athletes everywhere. Does this impact coaches' contract terms or anything? Aren't they all signed for each quad?

If Conegliano decides to keep the team together for one more season I think Kim will come back to play in Italy and next years' Olympics. There has been no drop off in her play this year and to move to beach if she decided to do that would require probably more then one year of competition to be competitive at the Olympic level. I know she really wanted to get in one more Olympics. It's part of that Oregon unfinished business thing that Sabrina symbolizes. The huge disappointment for what might have been, "Every available gold medal a pro team can earn in one year".

It gets interesting when you have fo decide between a 40-year old and a 20-year old. USA might not have that problem, but especially smaller countries might have to make decisions like that.
