It really doesn’t matter the fatality rate is 0.5% vs 5%. If you are in trouble, there is no treatment. If you get it, you either live or die. The risk factors for serious complications are not limited to the older age. They also include high blood pressure, obesity/overweight, diabetes, asthma etc. I do recommend 2 weeks of quarantine once you come home from AAU, at least this is my family tells me and my DD to do. As I said, I do respect parents who are willing to risk their lives and their loved ones’ lives to attend this volleyball tournament. I know many people don’t take this virus seriously in this country. I personally will not risk my life and my family’s lives to attend a tournament that is unlikely determining the recruiting anyway. I am pretty sure college coaches would want their own players and staffs to stay safe. They will understand our decision which will be their decision for their players. In addition, is it ethical for us coming from a state prohibiting sports gathering to another state allowing sports gathering? Whether you decide to go or not go, I hope you sleep well at night with your decision for your daughter. sure the percentage of mortality rate matters just like the rate of hospitalization matters which is less than 5% if you do get it. I live in NY. I am 65. I have had to work every day. Am I nervous going to work. Sure. Temperature scans on arrival. Masks when closer than six feet. Deep cleaning nightly. I'm sure that would happen at a scaled down event like this. I am more nervous about a depression because people are panicked to leave their houses again. The longer they stay inside, the longer the anxiety to get back to work. You know that feeling if you ever returned to work after being unemployed for months. By the way, in NY, not too much coverage, but 3500 deaths are being traced to the NYS state initially of sending Covid positive nursing home patients back to the nursing home. Under Cuomo's guidance. Yes, that stupid.

Even the virus is here to stay, we can gradually open the country by maintaining pubic safety and social distance. Some countries are able to live with some normalcy and keep the infection rate very low. Even that, basketball in China and baseball in South Korea will play without audience and after some degree of players isolation. AAU’s decision is reckless and irresponsible for players. They even admitted themselves that money is the reason behind their decision.

If there is one asymptomatic or symptomatic person in the convention center, you create a situation like the super spreader in South Korea. Even parents stay in the hotel, your kids still bring the virus back to you. I will not risk my family for this recruiting advantages. I will email college coaches about not attending. I am pretty sure they will not hold against my kids for this decision. Watch the study at 2:30 mark. There's no way that guy in the bottom left who is saying it's unsafe to go out to get a haircut hasn't had one himself in the past month. That's because CNN just like the rest of media is crap. This don't do this, even though we clearly do mantra has gotten stale. Everyone need to remember that they make the most money when there is crisis and the way they do that is to spread fear to keep you hooked. This brings in the big ad dollars. I'm not saying some of these things are not happening but don't believe everything you hear. I just want non-bias news! Is that so hard?

I kinda feel like putting this date out there is just wishful thinking. A keep it on the books for now, if you will. There is a slight chance this could start to get better really quickly but most likely not and we will see this thing canned like everything else.

FYI, the IHME model has New York at 0 deaths after Memorial Day. And June 5th for Florida. The IHME model recommends a Containment strategy after June 14, 2020, relaxing social distancing may be possible with containment strategies that include testing, contact tracing, isolation, and limiting gathering size. covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/florida

FYI, the IHME model has New York at 0 deaths after Memorial Day. It does, but the IHME model also assumes guidelines will continue well in August. Late May / early June could be "normal," but after any large gatherings in June we could see another massive spike in July and August. Whereas if behaviors hold true for the entire summer, we could see an fall 2020 that is "normal."

If they allow college coaches, it defeats the purpose of social distancing. Of course 15 players, 10 chaperones and 5 bench personnel defeats the purpose too. If they don't allow college coaches, much of the incentive for players to play in the tournament disappears. This decision makes no sense. According to the email that I received, each court will be streamed daily. Certainly not the same thing as being there but coaches can watch the kidsplaying.

People are going to have to move on with their new lives and stop hiding in their houses. Agreed, but ... you go first.

If they don't allow college coaches, much of the incentive for players to play in the tournament disappears. This decision makes no sense. I disagree with both of those premises. If they end up with 100 courts, you're increasing the number of people in the building from 15,000ish to maybe 16,000? (I think both of those estimates are very much on the high end. I don't think they'll have 100 courts-worth of teams and I don't think 1,000 college coaches would be allowed to attend). But if the Orange County and Florida health officials said there is a certain number of people you can have in the building and a way to do this safely, I don't see why coaches couldn't be included in that decision. Second, what percentage of athletes at AAUs are both uncommitted and of an age/talent level that warrants recruitment? I would maybe guess 25%? Even if it's 50%, that leaves over a thousand teams there simply to enjoy volleyball.

I’m not advocating for the AAUs. But sounds like the college coaches can watch the games & players via live stream , it’ll be very enticing for the players looking to be recruited, considering no tournaments has been going on.
