Actually he created 3 or 4 posts to whine about his daughter. And when he was called out on it, deleted the thread. DD must be proud. Tough crowd around here! 🤪 Idk what you are expecting.... you post on a board filled with former athletes, coaches, current athletes and coaches.... you whine about woe is your daughter and expect a different response? If you want her to compete... have her play tennis, swim, or do gymnastics.... but don’t complain to everyone when she isn’t good enough to play on a team where the talent is greater than she is capable of producing. Not everyone gets a medal, contrary to popular belief these days

So not stating this as a statement but a question. With all the "data" the experts were waiting for, where in the world are the outbreak hot spots caused by thousands of concerts and sporting events that were taking place in March? where is the evidence one event spurned a massive outbreak? with contact tracing, you think there be at least a few where people all said, "yeah I was that NBA game, soccer match, campaign rally, pop concert, and I felt sick or went to ER a week later?? I'm getting really suspicious now and apparently even ER doctors are too even in California.

Good points but I did read the follow up. I disagree with Noymar quoted mostly in your posted article. I live in NYC area and had to work thru out this. Seen more panic than tragedy. The preliminary data from anti-body testing is bearing out that the mortality rate is 75 times less than speculated during initial outbreak. Ad now a report is leaking out that 3500 of the deaths in NY are related to state ordering COVID positive patients BACK to nursing homes initially. That won't get much air time where they think our guv is a breath of fresh air.

Let's all be honest. AAU's are supposed to start in appx 50 days. Most places aren't even close to being "reopend" enough for practices to start. For arguments sake, let's say teams were able to practice or have limited practices in 21-28 days (most likely not realistic). That leaves 3-4 weeks of practice before playing here. We still have to consider the Phase a region would be in to determine if non-essential travel is approved. The model put out by the White House doesn't allow non-essential travel until Phase 2. Those who choose not to fly may not be able to even get there! This is all about money. Don't be surprised if we hear clubs have been in contact with AAU's asking them to delay this as long as possible so they aren't pressured into offering refunds of club dues to parents.

FWIW.. One of the things that caught my eye in the note from AAU is that they will not be utilizing ESPN WWOS. Kind of made sense, international teams not coming, lower team count etc..but then ironically, my neighbor mentioned that ALL Star Cheerleading moved their event to the same week as AAU's with close to 1300 AS Cheerleading teams registered.
Guess where they are hosting the Cheerleading event? ESPN WWOS...

Simply as an answer to the question, here is an article I saw about a week ago describing one such event.

However this mentions no sporting events with “fans”. AAU has said only “chaperones” for the teams. Semantics, yes, but perhaps an attempt around it. FWIW, I don’t agree w holding AAU Nationals & if my DDs were still in HS we would not be attending.

image.aausports.org/dnn/volleyball/2020/2020TeamListByClub.pdf31 pages!! It takes me a while to scroll down the list. 45,000 players, 10,000 club coaches, 6,000 college coaches and 100,000 spectators. Remove college coaches and spectators but add 10 more “chaperones” per team. We are still talking about more than 100,000 people in the convention center.

The "chaperone" idea is how they are getting around the "not open to the public" question.

Anyone know what the security deposit is to hold the OCCC? Assuming it's close to or well North of $100k AAU has no reason not to kick the can down the road... If AAU pulls the plug then the OCCC keeps that $$... If the state, local authorities disallow the event then AAU gets their $$ back. I simply can't see this event going off...

I would be REALLY surprised if it’s that much. If the tournament can guarantee lots of hotel nights, the actual convention center cost can be quite low.

The tournament had a long history with both Disney and OCCC. I'm not sure how much that eill away the fees. Business is business.
