I have been expecting this announcement since Bowdoin made the decision several weeks ago. I'm predicting the NEWMAC will follow next week. It’s just tough. Several have already but the campuses staying open are all singles like those. I feel like it’s easy to pull the plug but also the NCAA just made it easy to give it a shot without costing a season. I’m all for safety and health and also think it’s worth a shot. With FB 5 weeks and preseason scheduled for 6 weeks, it will be an interesting week next week with final announcements. Guess is 60-70% of D3 forgo early preseason and check in with student body. Then play starts around Sept 19th. Maybe 10% of all matches are nonconference.

it's all collapsing. Fall and early winter sports will be a no go for High Schools and it is looking like college sports will be toppled too. 2021 can't get here fast enough

If you had asked the administration at our local university two weeks ago, they'd have said football was happening in our stadium week 1 with no capacity restriction (I know this because I'm privy to those discussions for work). I thought that was nuts, but that was their position in June. The one thing football had going for it was five months between lockdown and kickoff. That buffer has disappeared and things are getting worse, fast. Our admin is a lot less optimistic this week.
My hope is spring football at this point. I just don't see how we can manage a fall season now, even with no fans. And empty stadiums don't make much sense for CFB anyway.

And empty stadiums don't make much sense for CFB anyway. This is the issue. All the FB-related discussions have been based around getting fans in stands. Not only does that seem impossible in fall, based on where we are right now, I don't see how they achieve that in spring either. But the frustrating thing from a volley perspective is, we could run a season without fans now! We'd need strict precautions, there would be issues along the way, but based on the options I've seen, it could 100% be done. Unfortunately it seems that unless we can find a way to do FB with fans, we will end up canceling all collegiate sports this year.

That’s why they will do anything g they can to move football tot he spring. - and May have to move other sports, like volleyball for title 9.

Spring FB is a last resort but, you're right, it's also the next one. Thing is, if they discover they still can't fill stadiums in the spring, I fear they might just pull the plug entirely on FB and every other sport. For volley, I believe we could do a fan-less season (in some form or another) without significantly increasing the risk level beyond where it's at 24/7 right now.

How are these guys going to play spring and then turn right around and play again in fall? Football players take a beating, I don’t see it.

I disagree about fans in stands being a necessity.
Power 5 schools are get $40 mil/year from their TV contracts. That’s certainly worth holding games with no fans.

But hey, amateur athletics right!? I’ve seen multiple administrators discuss this as a concern. You’re probably right that it’s not super high, but it’s one of the many reasons that spring football is only an option once all other options have been tried.
