I don't even particularly care for Dan, but I think the idol nullifier is the dumbest advantage ever. If you have the numbers, it guarantees that the person you're voting for goes home. If the argument is that there are too many advantages in the game, I don't disagree (I think Cirie's elimination in Game Changers should be impossible if the game is structured correctly). But the solution isn't to create more advantages and allow power creep to take over. No, just have fewer idols and advantages or place more restrictions on them. Like I think maybe there should be one idol per camp at most, and they have to be used by no later than like 10 players left in the game. And then only one idol is rehidden after the merge, and that's it. I also didn't like when the idol could be played after the votes - happened in a couple season (Yul being the 1st one). Yul never used it - but that idol was so powerful (too powerful). I can agree that they have too many advantages and should try limiting them. One of the best things they have done - or should do - is more tribe switches. On one hand - it makes the game more unpredictable and thus unfair. But the real advantage is it forces players to play more week to week and form mini temporary alliances. I think there is more strategy with this. Yes, I agree. That was the original iteration of the idol (Terry also had one in Panama, which predated Yul's, though I suppose Yul's was probably the most broken iteration because Cook Islands was the first season in which there was a final three instead of a final two, but Yul could still use the idol up to the final four, so he could basically guarantee a spot at Final Tribal Council), and it was definitely too powerful. A variant of this idol was brought back in Cagayan, though it was depowered a little, as it could only be used up to final five, and the holder wasn't allowed to give it to another person. To Tony's credit, he brilliantly bluffed about the idol's "special powers" and revealed at the final four vote (after the votes were cast) that the idol had already expired. As for tribe swaps, I do agree that they are a necessary part of the game, but I also think they can be overdone, like what happened in Game Changers. I really don't think there should be more than one tribe swap before the merge. I also like the idea of splitting the two starting tribes into three smaller tribes when dealing with a very large cast, as we saw in both David vs. Goliath and Winners at War, though I've seen a lot of complaints about this online. With smaller tribes, it's much harder for anyone to hide, and it often only takes one person flipping or one idol being played to shift the advantage.

I'm almost done with David v. Goliath, and I have to say that this season has been excellent throughout. I was a little worried that the season would lose momentum once the Davids took control (like what happened in Cook Islands once the Aitu 4 solidified their hold on the game), but thankfully, that has not happened, as the Davids have fractured and are in as much disarray as the Goliaths before them.

Angelina is comedy gold. She is an absolute dream goat to take to the end and perhaps my favorite truly terrible player ever. I think she could play a million times and never win. And the great thing is that I'm convinced that she thinks she's actually a really good player because she has zero self-awareness.
Edit: Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I got to the part where Angelina wants to "correctly" play an idol for herself for the benefit of the jury by convincing Mike to get Kara and Allison to vote for her so that she can "impress" the jury. I can't stop laughing at her "strategy."

I have finished David vs. Goliath, which was a truly great season. Going into Final Tribal Council, I was narrowly leaning toward Mike, as I felt his game had really taken off toward the end, while Nick's had faltered. But Nick's FTC was very good, while Mike's was just okay, so I flipped to Nick. Angelina's FTC was just as much a trainwreck as I anticipated, as she interrupted, exaggerated, lied and continued to brag about getting rice from Jeff. Her attempt to embarrass Allison with her fake idol while "correctly" playing her real one also predictably backfired, just like everything else she did. What a magnificent goat.
This is the first season that I think deserves to join Cambodia, China and Tocantins in my second tier. I think the only real difference between the top tier and the second tier is that the seasons in the top tier were won by either Tony or Sandra. That's it, as they're all excellent seasons.
Tier 1 1. Winners at War 2. Pearl Islands 3. Cagayan 4. Heroes v. Villains Tier 2 5. David v. Goliath 6. Cambodia 7. China 8. Tocantins Tier 3 9. Philippines 10. Blood v. Water 11. Panama 12. Vanuatu 13. Cook Islands 14. Kaoh Rong Tier 4 15. Game Changers 16. Micronesia Tier 5 17. Palau 18. Marquesas

“Natalie, can I have your jacket? Natalie??? Natalie???” 😂😂😂
I finished Gamechangers, Ben’s win, and Wendell’s win. Now I’m rewatching DvG as your posts reminded me how much I enjoyed this season, the first season I watched live since season 3. What’s up brochachos?
Retrospective thoughts of the other three seasons, I liked Ben and his Ben bombs the most, but I was most impressed by Sarah Lacina’s gameplay. Very high level. Wendell played well, but I was mostly let down by that season. So many potential big moves left on the table. The only saving grace was some good eye candy 🤭.
After DvG, I need to go back and watch Natalie White’s season (S19), Judd’s season (S21), and Denise’s season (S25). After that, I’ll have seen all seasons and almost all episodes.

I need to go back and watch Natalie White’s season (S19) The Final 11 vote out simultaneously broke my heart and was the most thrilling vote count of the season. The anticipation of who it was going to be and the reaction... iconic. “He just stirred up a whole lot of trouble...” *fake indignation and head nod*

DvG is a great season. There's so many cast members that need to come back Yes, I would like to see Christian, the Mayor of Slamtown, Davie, Mike, Alec, and Angelina (aka "comedy gold") back. I wouldn't even mind seeing some of the people who went out relatively early, particularly Jeremy. I also wouldn't mind seeing Bi back, but only after she retires from her MMA career. I know it's pretty doubtful on some of these, particularly Alec, Jeremy, and Bi, but still. This was one of the strongest casts top-to-bottom ever.

I'd place doubt on Jeremy too. He was super salty towards fans and survivor during the season once he got voted off. He wasn't at the reunion and left Ponderosa early.

Yes, I agree, which why I said they were doubtful. Still, from a pure entertainment standpoint, I would like to see them back. I also think Bi is doubtful too because she quit (for a good reason), though if production recruits an active athlete, they can't have the shocked Pikachu face if she withdraws after an injury. I'm also a bit doubtful that John (who is currently with the WWE) or Mike would play again anytime soon, given their respective careers.

I really liked Mike... but yea that seems like it was a one and done for probably all three. There are too many other people from the season that should come back too

I highly recommend Denise's season, which is a top 10 season for me. It looks like you can get a free one-week trial of CBS All-Access, which has all the seasons, so you could probably get through the three seasons you mentioned in a week if you wanted to. All three are also on both Hulu and Amazon Prime. Edit: Survivor Philippines also has perhaps my favorite first boot in the history of the show. Just utterly hilarious.

I watched the first episode of The Amazon, and this season seems pretty fun so far. The men vs. women theme is kind of entertaining (I also thought it worked well in Vanuatu), though scenes like the men taking up most of their initial tribal council talking about which of the women are the best looking probably wouldn't fly today. I'm not really complaining, as it's kind of funny. I'm just a bit taken aback because I can't imagine this happening in a modern season. The cast seems pretty good. I mainly started watching because this is Rob Cesternino's season, and I really enjoy his podcasts, but I find Jenna to be hilarious too. In fact, I would say that her jokes about the men are probably just as funny if not funnier than any of the jokes that Rob made.

Over time - it seems that casting has moved away from the hot chick wearing minimal clothes. Curious if this is real or just something I have misremembered? Amazon is a bit famous for the Peanut Butter and Chocolate challenge (don't remember the specific food to entice) involving Jenna and Heidi. There were several instances of nudity on the show that I don't think has existed since around season 20. Just watched episode 2 of Season 15 where Amanda was topless for the end of a challenge. Yanking off player's clothes during challenges just doesn't seem as common as it once was. Players walking around camp naked (Richard/Tyson) doesn't happen anymore. Season 15 went with the clothes on their backs to start the game - for which Jaime said she wasn't wearing a bra. Jeff's comment was; 'this may make you more popular'. Would he say that today? Would they put someone in that position? Another thing I noticed - how different the girls dressed in Season 2 vs. Season 8. Specifically - looking at Amber between those to seasons. It wasn't just the weather...
