Curious to what the pay is for HS officials in certain states. Texas will have an extended season because the split conferences start dates but I can travel remotely this year for work and wanted to travel if i could Maybe i could see some of the country and ref a bit longer with spring seasons
Cali looks to have a shortage for the coming season...just trying to personally look at a half glass full situation

Be advised that not all states play the same format (generally JV - 2/3 & varsity 3/5). Here in IL we play 2/3 for matches other than tourneys. Even leagues have different format like playing both sophomores & JV at the same time with both refs coming together to do varsity or playing frosh/JV/varsity for a triple header.

When is each state starting their season
Texas is using a biforcated system so to speak Starting Last Monday Aug 10th for smaller (more rural or smaller cities)classifications no tourneys allowed 5A and 6A the largest two classes (more urban, large suburban) starts on Sept 14th with no tourneys allowed
JH at this time still being attempted In Texas after actual school starts
I heard Nevada is doing only 6 weeks season including any playoffs that may occur (from a friend) starting in April
assuming any season can go the full seasons
what else is happening ?

SF bay area high school - we pay officials $110.00 for a frosh game, $110.00 for a JV game, and $150.00 for a Varsity game. I would imagine their rates will go up due to demand (both boys and girls vball will be played in the same season).

My old HS in Ohio is streaming their games on Facebook and Instagram, since the crowds are "limited."
That is a pretty nice service that perhaps others ought to emulate.

I remember SPVB was promoting one of the Haggertys at 10-3 or 10-4 and then she got to Nebraska and "didn't play high enough to hit in the Big Ten." It Was Molly and she was touching 10'4 in club. Went to Wisconsin and was Freshmen of the year in BiG TEN.

Texas playing with no crowds for smaller schools. Big city schools not starting until mid Sept Well this is not exactly how things are happening...1A-4A has begun, but there are schools in larger cities that are classified as 4A and below. However, Lovejoy High School (for example) is designated as 5A. Lovejoy is in Lucas which has a population of less than 10,000. I use that school as an example because they are the reigning 5A volleyball champs despite their size. My disagreement lies with the designation of 5 & 6A schools as "big city schools". There is lot more to it than population.

There are several inner city schools in 4A, but the typical 4A school (and below) are one school small towns with approximately 20,000 the max. 5A & 6A now is almost all big city and suburban schools along with the one school towns above 20,000. While Lovejoy HS is in Lucas, the school district covers a bigger area. Lovejoy takes in most of the area south of McKinney, east of Allen, and west of Lake Ray Hubbard.

MHSAA (Michigan) 8/14: Moving Football to Spring, but proceeding with all other fall sports.
======================== Dear MHSAA Community,
Earlier today, the Representative Council made the difficult decision to postpone football until the spring of 2021. This decision was based on feedback and input from the Governor’s office, state health department officials, member schools, collegiate conferences and individuals on both sides of the issue. Plans will be shared soon regarding allowed fall coach-player workouts as well as concepts for the spring football season dates, format and playoffs.
Know that all other fall sports in the low and moderate risk categories are moving forward. Practices have begun in all those other sports and competitions may begin in golf and tennis on August 19 and cross country on August 21. The Representative Council will be meeting again next Wednesday to finalize the competition calendars for boys soccer, girls swimming and volleyball. Further guidance regarding these indoor facilities in Phase 4 is coming to schools next week.
At the end of the day, we did everything we could to find a path forward for football this fall. With all input received, along with school feedback from the first week of practice, there was just too much uncertainty and too many unknowns to safely play football this fall. While there is disappointment today that we could not play football this fall, we are encouraged and motivated to find the best possible plan to fit football in with existing seasons to give all of our kids the best experience possible.
Please look for our next update to reach you on August 19 with finalized plans and dates for the remaining fall sports.

And Lovejoy was an awful example for the point I was trying to make. Although Lucas is small, the area around it is densely populated (and Collin County is not doing well with Covid cases right now). The message I was intending to deliver: Not every school in the group that is currently playing is from a sparsely populated area. Some of them are in areas with high numbers of Covid cases thus increasing the exposure of athletes from smaller towns across the state.
