Did you ever consider that it might be a pre-COVID picture?

Did you ever consider that it might be a pre-COVID picture? I did not. For whatever reason, when I view this on laptop, the twitter post above the pic of team is not visible. Weird! Apologies for not realizing that. So that said, sure hope that was pic from last year! and good luck and safe playing this year.

Of the three HSs in my hometown of Dublin Ohio, I would project their VB teams as follows. 1 Coffman Shamrocks Their Alumnae are representing pretty hard at the NCAA D1 level with Hunter Atherton (Minn), Dana Axner (FGCU), Jenn Schulze (Miami OH), Riley Wagoner (Hawaii) and Sadie Brown (Jacksonville St). Though they are no longer a perennial state title contender, they do have a 155 game Conference winning streak going, with 13 straight Conference Titles. The bad news is that the OCC has realigned their divisions in a manner that will make it difficult to keep that streak alive. They keep their top two divisional foes in Upper Arlington and Hilliard Davidson, but then they replace all of the putrid teams in their division with regional powers Hilliard Bradley, Olentangy Liberty and Olentangy Orange. Last year they leaned heavily on a loaded freshman class that produced three starters. Replacing a pair of college bound senior starters will be key. Two Seniors, setter Anna Dorenkot along with seven rotation Erin Peeples will guide the Super Sophs OH Ella Durham, DS Annabelle Stratey and another seven rotation player in Leah Shumate. OH Ruby Moore is the most promising member of the Junior class, and the rest of the rotation remains up in the air. 2020 Schedule: coffmanathletics.net/teams/2883660/girls/volleyball/varsity/scheduleTeam Page: coffmanvolleyball.com/sports/wvball/coaches/indexHead Coach: Max Miller; first season. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 Scioto Fighting IrishThey haven't loaded up the D1 ranks like Coffman, but on the court they always hold their own. They finally finished atop their divisional standings instead of their usual second place behind Worthington Kilbourne, winning their first and only Conference Title of the decade. They might be able to overtake Coffman as the top VB team in the School District, with the two teams trending in opposite directions as of late, but none of the Dublin teams are scheduled to play each other, at lest during the regular season. The Irish still have Hard Rd rival Worthington Kilbourne as the guardians of their division, though they lose the crosstown rivalry with Jerome. Instead they have two of the Westerville HSs, with Big Nut, Delaware, and then a pair of random south side schools in Canal Winchester and Franklin Hts. So the Battle of Hard Rd "should" determine the division, with Big Nut maybe having something to say about it. They have a trio of seniors that have been varsity starters since they were freshman in setter Abby Leonard, along with the Rothe Twins. The Junior Class harbors Ayva Leon who will enter her third season at Libero. The rest of the rotation is yet to be determined. Team Page (includes 2020 schedule): www.dublinsciotovolleyball.com/Head Coach Jackie Wilson; 11th season ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerome Celtics The town laughing stock, at least in VB circles, has shown some signs of life under their current coach, who enters his third season at the helm. Last year they finished one game behind their divisional co-champs Scioto and Hilliard Bradley. Like Scioto, the Celtics also only have one alumnus at the NCAA D1 ranks, but senior OH Jaci Carpenter has already committed to Florida Gulf Coast. Grace Schleter is the other returning senior starter. Sophomore setter Brooke Carpenter returns after starting for the varsity team as a freshman. The rest of the rotation is up for grabs, with juniors Paige Wleklinski and Caroline Zimovan being the most seasoned of the bunch. Their new OCC division is not all that daunting, with Marysville, Hilliard Darby, Thomas Worthington, Olentangy and Olentangy Berlin. The Olentangy Braves will be the "keyholder" in GVB. 2020 Schedule: jeromeathletics.net/teams/2883554/girls/volleyball/varsity/scheduleTeam Page: www.jeromegirlsvolleyball.com/Head Coach: Randy Cline; 3rd season After the cancellation of a few preseason tourneys, Coffman and Jerome have scheduled a game against each other that they will stream on August 27th. This is big because I don't believe that the two schools have ever played one another before. If they have, it was during the brief period between 2003 when Jerome opened and 2008 which is about as far back as Maxprep's archives go. The two schools are traditionally at the opposite end of the VB spectrum. The school district seemingly funnels all of the top players into Coffman, while Scioto gets the best of the rest, and Jerome gets all of the leftovers. But Coffman is coming off a dud year with a one and done coach, while Jerome has been quite a bit better than they usually are for the past couple of seasons. So it might be a little bit closer than one might expect. Coffman and Scioto have met a few times in the playoffs, and Scioto and Jerome were divisional opponents that played twice a year up until last year. But Coffman and Jerome have never played, as far as I can tell. So this should be kind of fun.

Massachusetts(MIAA) is allowing "low" and "moderate" risk sports to compete in the fall. volleyball is in moderate category. The Fall season is 9/18/20 - 11/20/20. There will be no championships held for fall sports. This means no football competition in the fall as that is "high" risk.
They have added what they are calling a "floating" season(2/21/21 - 4/25/21). It will run between winter(11/30/20 - 2/21/21) and spring(4/26/21 - 7/3/21). This is when they hope to play football, and, any schools that can not play other fall sports in that season will have the option of playing in the floating season instead. All this can of course be completely changed at any time based on the moment.
