Hisamitsu lost Shinnabe, the perennial best passer for Japan. They will get a boost with Nootsara/Pornpun and Akinradewo (?) though. That's a great Thai duo. And Nootsara has proven herself with Fenerbahçe, she has a lot of valuable experience playing in the top leagues. Although at 34, she may be going downhill now in performance. Based on recent performances I think Nootsara has 3 or 4 more years in her bag. Besides, she plays a position that doesn’t get affected much badly by age.

She retired from the Thai NT after the Tokyo Qualification Tournament, so at least on that score, her best days on court are behind her. That being said, I think you are right in that she can still play top level volleyball for a few more seasons. Barring major injury, she still can contribute on court with her experience.

No formal announcements regarding the western foreigners just yet. For the SEA foreigners, only Santiago has been confirmed for Saitama.
Also the rumors regarding Pornpun (THA, SET) coming to Toyota are getting stronger. The Japanese are very secretive when it comes to their imports. I doubt we get anything until the last few weeks leading up to the October 17 start.

Apparently, all the foreign players (and foreign coach, Brazilian coach for Saitama) are still not in Japan due to strict foreigner policies in light of COVID.

It would seem impossible to hold an Olympics in Japan if travel is this restricted.

It would seem impossible to hold an Olympics in Japan if travel is this restricted. Japan will allow it by then either way. They’ve spent billions on the Olympics. Quite a bit more pressure to hold them than to get Americans there for their volleyball league.

Rumors suggest that Sorokaite is getting closer with Casalmaggiore. She was initially going to Toyota. Wonder what happened.
Neriman is also getting closer with NEC Red Rockets after her stint with Toyota past few years.
