Tracy Callahan has fewer than Wopat, with 788. Ha, that's funny! I must have glossed over her because of all the love she's been getting by the artist formerly knows as Saxon, now guest3. All eyes will be on Traci in the Q. I don't know her, never seen her play, haven't had a kid coached by her or anything like that, but it would be cool to see her and Crissy go out and back up all the hype! LOL! I don’t have a clue how she’s going to do. She’s just one of the nicest people and has worked hard making a transition to defense. It will be interesting to see going forward. I think Travis two podcasts about her got me interested. It’s a good underdog story.

The link to the entry list is no longer showing the entries. I wonder if that means some players have tested positive and reseeding is taking place.

I keep commenting on posts to stream the qualifiers but AVP keeps ignoring me lol I direct messaged AVP on IG and got this response: "Due to current CA State regulations, there is a limit to the number of personnel the AVP is safely allowed to facilitate within a closed venue. Unfortunately, the increase in teams on this qualifier day means that a streaming and tv crew is not an option. We hope that you tune in on Saturday and Sunday to Amazon Prime Video to catch all of the main draw action."

Though, I am not sure how many additional people would be required on site if a few cameras were set up a day in advance. Real missed opportunity here with such a stacked qualifier and few other sports being broadcasted.

While I'm disappointed that the qualifier won't be streamed I understand why the AVP isn't "just throwing up a couple cameras in advance." That approach works fine if its your friend trying to stream a local tourney on Facebook, because if they run in to technical issues they can just say "Well I tried, sorry about that buddy!" and no one is really going to be too upset. However if a professional tour advertises that they will have a live stream and then has technical issues and can't have a crew on site to address them, there's going to be a lot of confusion and complaining from the fan base (and rightfully so). It's just not a professional approach. Having worked in the television and video production field the last 25 years I can emphatically say it's never as simple as "throwing up a wide shot camera and forgetting about it". You will always need a crew. Especially if you want to produce and distribute a professional product that carries your company's name to customers/fans.
No one gets paid because they have expertise in dealing with things when it goes right. it's having expertise dealing with things when it goes wrong that's important!

they can at the least allow the players to stream the Q... in these times, poor quality is still better than nothing.. there is a very good chance to get more people into beach volleyball when there is just not a lot out there to choose from

The contradiction, of course, is that they are going to be streaming Saturday and Sunday with fewer players. Some solutions that seem to be immediately apparent after reflecting on this problem for 30 seconds or so: Play one half of the bracket at a time so half the players are always off-site. (or 3/4s if you do one half of men, then one half of women, etc.) Stream all matches after the first round when the additional teams have been eliminated Let fewer teams in - remember this is an entertainment endeavor not a charity. Play some Q matches on Thursday Im sure there are many other possible solutions as well.

Due to reduced staffing requirements of business ventures, the AVP was forced to choose between camera crew to stream, or more qualifier teams. They choose more teams. It's why we're seeing the format we are seeing, with only 8 main draw teams. Props to the AVP for taking care of it's own first.

Wow, so that means if you don't Q, you get to go back to your room on Sat and Sun to watch like the rest of us.. harsh!

The AVP is an entertainment company, prioritizing a group of largely part time employees to the extent that it actually prevents the AVP from putting out its product is ridiculous. But assume for a second that their goal is somehow not ludicrous, they could achieve exactly the same by paying the bottom 6 teams in each gender to not play. (They could pay them whatever the 6 last place finishers would get anyway) In that scenario the fans get the product and everyone gets paid. Not figuring out a solution to this problem becomes dumber the more I think about it.

Not figuring out a solution to this problem becomes dumbr the more I think about it. Simply not a self sustaining business. The AVP also isnt anywhere close to the business first model it used back in the 80s and 90s. I would much rather it valued its core of players who cant make anywhere close to a living and increased the product. They're still streaming the weekend. I dont think the AVP in this current pandemic is in any possible position to value the farms over players. The money comes from advertisers, who likely arent going to throw money into the current future of any product regardless of how many fans are watching.
