If they’re talking semifinals overall, there’s no reason MBH should beat Hill. Her performance yesterday only was very strong though.

What's ironic is that both Hill and MBH will be the last to arrive at the USAWNT gym for training. This ups Larson and Robinson's stock for the starting positions. What is awesome is that I think this might be the deepest the team has ever been on the outside maybe ever at an OG. I think all 4 of them will play some role. What other team even comes close to having four solid OH's? China? Italy?

What other team even comes close to having four solid OH's? China? Italy? I would say China only has 2 solid OH's in Zhu and Zhang, but Li Yingying is slowly rising. We only saw her against weaker competition at the 2019 World Cup so it's hard to say how she'll do against the likes of USA, Serbia, Italy, etc. Her performance in the Chinese League this season has shown improvement, reception slightly increased, but her angles have gotten sharper. Their fourth OH could be a mystery, Liu Xiaotong wasn't in good shape this past year. Italy will likely see a change in their starting duo OH's with Caterina replacing her sister who's been on the sidelines. Pietrini's role will remain on the bench unless Sylla is struggling, I don't see them being successful with both on the court. It has to be one or the other with one of the Bosetti sisters. I'm also interested to see what OH's Brazil brings, other than Natalia and Gabi the last two spots is still open. Amanda has been there most of this cycle, but she doesn't seem like she could be a game changer in Tokyo. Drussyla also faded these past few years and from what I heard was let go by her team this season. Ze Roberto might as well bring back Fe Garay.

Look, only an ignorant person will deny that Conegliano and Vakifbank are individually the 2 strongest club in Europe (and world), but the real reaosn they are so effortlessly dominating club landscape is because of the continuity and experience of playing together. The sheer brilliance of their setters and Egonu will show, of course it will, but the reason the only obstacle to an otherwise inevitable final between the 2 was if they were paired earlier lies elsewhere.

If poulter/carlini/hancock can give that kind of sets to pins. Uuhgggh
Larson will be starter for sure the captain. Nevermind krob she'll be the queen of libero. So one of hill or mbh will watch from bench.

So one of hill or mbh will watch from bench. True, but Karch will likely keep them on a short leash except for maybe Larson. The other three will rotate pending who is passing and terminating at the highest efficiency. Hill looks fantastic right now and MBH is not far behind her. Robinson looks rough because Naz keeps setting moon balls her way. Robinson looked decent in 2019 but the competitive level was low. Her connection with Poulter if probably one of the best which makes things interesting to say the least. I predict many of us will be hollering at the TV this season when Karch inevitably makes the wrong calls. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

I just thought of something cool. Both MBH and Egonu are both going for their 1st back to back Champions League Title. Both were at Novara in 2019 when they won it the first time. Since Covid messed up 2020's season, these seasons are technically chronological.
If Conegliano wins, well they certainly deserve it. I think they are overall better looking on paper. It will be interesting to see how they look under tons of pressure. This is the one title that eludes them. Egonu will cement her role as one of the best players of this current generation at this rate. She is soooo young and only going to get better with time.
If Vakifbank wins, that could promote MBH to a starting position on the National Team. I already think a MBH/Robinson starting line-up is what we are likely going to get. Larson will be MBH's sub and Hill will be Robinsons. I do think that a Hill/MBH combo would be fun to see. Hopefully we get that at some point in the VNL.
I also can't wait to see who has the best connection with whoever the starting setter turns out to be.
This super final is gonna be lit AF. Can't wait.
Wolosz vs. Ognjenović Sylla/Adams vs. Bartsch-Hackley Hill vs. Guimaraes Folie vs. Gunes DeKruijf vs. Rasić Egonu vs. Haak DeGennaro vs. Aykaç
I'm ready!
