You would think the volleyball community would like to see a mid major, with such an accomplished history, make a push back to being a regional and national level player; however, a lot of board posters are quick to stamp out any passion or excitement by their fan base.
LBSU has a good young group coming back and has some quality players coming in this year and next. If you cannot see the talent upgrade at all the needed positions you are kidding yourself. Of course the coaching staff needs to mold the team and get the best out of them but there is plenty to be excited about based on the talent alone. The Tuaniga era is here and I say “let’s roll”.

I am a bit confused. You call it a discussion board and in the next sentence attempt to stifle discussion by telling jwvolley not to respond to you and to only read, unless they have the same opinion as you... So which is it? A discussion board where we all reply to each other, or a place where Ballislife blogs their personal feelings and those who don’t agree must not state such, they just need to move on? I’m getting mixed messages from you here. How is stating truth rude? Explain that to me? Kinda like Minnesota is incapable of winning a final four match. Also the truth. Btw, you do the same thing all the time. Pot meet Kettle. I also never stifled any conversation, nor told anyone not to respond to me. Where are you pulling that from? Please, quote me. I’m a bit confused myself. Oh, I must have misinterpreted what you meant when you suggested that someone who responded to you should have just “kept reading.”

So maybe this is very telling of what unbiased people think about the program.

Regardless of how good Tuaniga is, this is a squad that finished #122 in the RPI last year and graduated 2 of the 3 players they landed on the All-Conference team. Yeah, they have a highly-rated recruiting class (although part of that is certainly due to the volume of recruits), but teams don't typically jump from #120 to Top 50.

To an extent. I think a lot of mid-major players get their quality doubted here because of the school they chose and to a greater extent the competition they play against.

That doesn't seem like that far of a jump now.

Yeah, they have a highly-rated recruiting class (although part of that is certainly due to the volume of recruits), but teams don't typically jump from #120 to Top 50. Regardless of how good the best player on the team is, how good will the team be?? You get why that's not a good question right? Your supposition that a dubious reaction from (some) VT posters indicates underlying issues on this roster is a spectacular exaggeration of the collective knowledge of those posters. I'd suggest it's far more likely that said posters didn't watch Beach last year, don't know the incoming players and are basing their opinion solely on RPI from 2019. To be clear, I'm not a Beach fan but having watched almost all of their matches in 2019, there were many issues which might be ameliorated in 2020 including injuries, issues with setting, issues with ball control and issues defensively. One of those departing players that made all conference in 2019 is a loss, the other only made that list on reputation. She didn't have a great year and I expect her replacement (Nicole Hoff) will be better. So they'll definitely be better in 2020. Are they guaranteed to be top 50? No but I think they're clearly superior to UCSB (a top 50 team from 2019 - and if you want to see a jump in RPI, check them from 2018 to 2019). They should push Cal Poly and Hawaii to win the conference. If they are top 2 in the BW, I think they'd be top 50, don't you?

Their Pablo was 79. That doesn't seem like that far of a jump now. They also got swept by Fullerton... They also later avenged that loss to Fullerton, and beat UCSB and Cal Poly LATE in the season (Two borderline Top 25 teams) They also went 17-19 in the 5th set at Florida, who was a national seed last season. I mean for someone whose unbiased, it's surprising you're pointing out the poor RPI but not decent Pablo, and the poor loss, but not the better moments of the season? I would have expected both.

They also got swept by Fullerton... You forgot James Madison University as well. They must have a talented roster too. Depends. Do you like RPI or Pablo? Pablo says 89. RPI says 57.

Depends. Do you like RPI or Pablo? Pablo says 89. RPI says 57. Wasting your time giving him any numbers besides KP's shoe size... The irony about choosing James Madison as a bad loss is that James Madison has been a consistent borderline Top 50 RPI team for the past 4 years. If he was trying to beat down LBSU for bad losses - he should have picked San Diego State (much much much much worse) or UC Davis.

Which is why it's funny when other posters suggest that the detractors in this thread actually mean anything.
