With all the talk about Tokyo, what does the outlook for Paris 2024 hold?
Top teams like China (Lang Ping), Serbia (Zoran Terzic), and Brazil (Ze Roberto) are expected to lose their current head coach, all three of which have made major contributions to the success of each country. But how will they do next cycle with someone else leading the team?
There will be a lot of veterans retiring after Tokyo, will teams have the youth to fill in those roles? Some yes, but others no. Most teams will be fine, but Netherlands on the other hand are the ones that are probably the most worried considering they will be co-hosts at the 2022 World Championship.
I'm actually excited for this next quad. Lots of new upcoming talent to look forward to not just on the USA side, but for others as well. This next generation of volleyball will be fun to watch.

USA, Italy and Poland will be very exciting to watch. Poland will definitely rise as a European powerhouse. Hopefully they get their coaching issue settled.

Who will take over from Karch and will he/she be any better? If Karch and the women win gold - does that get him another 4 years? Or is he gone (or back) no matter what happens?

Well the contract for the Olympic quad to Paris 2024 will have to be negotiated and I assume Karch would be looking for quite a substantial raise for bringing in the gold. Then the question is would USA Volleyball be willing to cough up the dough?

True, but if Karch does win gold and USA Volleyball really wants to keep him to Paris, I am sure there is a way for the money to be found somewhere...one way or the other.

All you have to do after karch wins that gold in Tokyo is to give him half of all that VNL money he'll be earning for the next three years.

aww cmon where is your sense of fun?! My sense of fun is holding up ok, my sense of sanity however....... beginning to question whether we will ever have good news again. Same here. Reading earlier about athletes playing for Nilufer BLD in Turkey testing positive really bummed me out. I hope the league gets to even happen. I NEED to see new volleyball content at some point. I feel bad even typing that. People are dying. I have my health (for now) and I am grateful. I just really want to watch all this young volleyball talent around the world start playing again!

listindiario.com/el-deporte/2020/07/17/626605/prisilla-busca-la-fecha-para-retiro-del-voleibolNice article relevant to Tokyo & retirement. Rivera says after 22 years with the national team, she had planned to retire after Tokyo 2020. She mentions this was a promise she made to her daughter, Megan, that she would end her career at the Olympics in Tokyo. Tragically, her daughter Megan passed away just a few months back. Now, she says the tentative retirement date looks like Tokyo 2021. But she learned through life that things don't always go as planned because at any time your life can be changed. She does say coaching is in her future and would like to stay connected to the sport. She also mentions she wasn't really interested in volleyball at first, but some church team (LOL) cut her when she was a teenager and that inspired her to persevere and win!

Players who could retire from their countries NT post Tokyo 2021/World Championships 2022:
USA: Likely: Jordan Larson, Kimberly Hill, Foluke Akinradewo and Rachael Adams. Possible: Michelle Bartsch-Hackley, Karsta Lowe and Tetori Dixon.
China: Likely: Yan Ni, Ding Xia and Zeng Chunlei. Possible: Lin Li.
Serbia: Likely: Maja Ognjenović, Bojana Zivković, Ana Antonijević, Silvija Popović and Jelena Blagojević. Possible: Milena Rasić, Stefana Veljković and Jovana Stevanović.
Brazil: Likely: All the Golden Girls (for good this time?). Maybe? lol Possible: Natâlia, Tandara and Adenízia.
Turkey: Likely: Eda Erdem Dündar and Meryem Boz. Possible: Naz Akyol.
Italy: Likely: Lucia Bosetti Possible: Monica DeGennaro
Netherlands: (I predict this will happen post the 2022 World Championships since they are hosts.) Likely: Maret Balkenstein-Grothues, Laura Dijkema, Nicole Koolhaas and Myrtle Schoot. Possible: Robin DeKruijf, Anne Buijs and Lonneke Sloëtjes.
Dominican Republic: Likely: Annerys Vargas, Prisilla Rivera, Gina Mambru and Bethania DelaCruz. Possbile: Nverka Marte, Candida Arias and Camil Dominguez.
Russia: Likely: Yevgeniya Startseva, Tatiana Kosheleva and Nataliya Goncharova. Possible: Ekaterina Orlova and Irina Koroleva.
Japan: Likely: Nagaoka, Iwasaka, Araki, Ishii, Sato and Okumura.
Korea: Likely: Kim Yeon-Koung, Kim Su-ji, Jung Dae-young, Yim Myung-ok and Kim Hae-ran. Possible: Kim Hee-jin.
Belgium, Germany and Poland should all be good with-out any major retiring players.
Thailand's fab 5 are all likely done which really sucks for that team.
We should all be watching teams like Canada, Argentina, Bulgaria and Croatia in the coming years. I think they will start making an impact and some might even become mainstays in the VNL. Lots of young talent landing on those teams and should be exciting to watch grow.
