You guys, I'm going to go out on a long limb here and say that the NCAA Board of Governors are a bunch of goobs.

A group of PAC-12 athletes has unilaterally demanded changes to college sports that would end any semblance of amateurism and any meaningful distinction between scholarship athletes and walk-on athletes. They would all have to be paid, all guaranteed half of any revenue generated by a sports program to be distributed among all athletes, all have to be covered by insurance, all guaranteed that COVID-19 issues and “racial justice” issues would be resolved to the satisfaction of player representatives (aka union reps). Many of the demands are similar to “wage-theft” actions California has been pursuing against minor-league baseball and contemplating against college sports. Eliminating walk-ons would end all but a tiny fraction of college sports and giving in to such demands would put college athletics into the same subservient position as owners of professional teams dealing with similar athlete demands. I see one group of athletes in one revenue sport (football... soon to be joined by MBB, I believe) in one Power 5 conference as a precipitating event for other unilateral athlete demands to be followed by matching government mandates. I do not believe there will be any collegiate sports at all in five years... including all divisions of WVB. There will be intermural sports and there may be professional sports affiliated with universities. The causal factors have been declared out of scope for VT so I will end here. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/sports-columnists/story/2020-08-03/zeigler-college-football-sports-pac-12-demands-boycott-pay-players-title-ix-ncaa?_amp=true&__twitter_impression=true

Sounds like announcement tomorrow I think they will mandate (not recommend anymore) testing on a weekly basis for all athletes. It will financially put such a strain on smaller schools that they will have no choice but to cancel the fall seasons and likely the start of basketball too. Keep adding more rules and guidelines that make it impossible to follow so in effect forcing a shutdown without saying shutdown. Just my thoughts.

It's like we are living in a communist state with Vladimir Lenin calling the shots. Remember NCAA the lives,...no the livelihood, of literally thousands of people not just the players that are at stake.

If vladamir Lennon was calling shots they would be playing ; Imagine there's no NCAA, it isn't hard to do. Study Marx and Engels, avoid the COVID flu.

Just announced seconds ago: D2 D3 fall NCAA championships cancelled. I guess but don’t know for sure that you could still play some individual conference matches but doubt anyone would want to do that.

That’s the smart thing to do and the right thing. The reason d1 hasn’t yet is because of the greed in all the money. That’s all it’s about straight up is the money. They could care less about players safety.

This entire thread lost creditibility right about the time it led with "A group of Pac12 athletes..."

I would guess 99.99999% of all NCAA athletes have intact, functioning immune systems (else they wouldn't have passed their scholarship physicals or be cleared to play). So even if they test positive for COVID19, most will recover within a few days or be totally asymptomatic. The NBA and MLB have both had incidents of players testing positive for COVID19. Isolation and quarantine protocols. Most will probably be out for 2-3 weeks until they meet the required # of days of testing negative. Some of y'all act like if a college or pro athlete gets coronavirus, then every single one of them is gonna up and die.

Some of y'all act like if a college or pro athlete gets coronavirus, then every single one of them is gonna up and die. Yeah, it's no big deal if just a few of them die. We just don't want them ALL to drop dead with coronary failure. A few, sure, but if the number gets higher than the number of horses shot during a race season, then the optics get bad and the fans start to notice and we have to do something to pretend we care. That is why the SEC is requiring a cardiac evaluation for every positive test before returning after quarantine, even if the athlete was completely asymptomatic. SEC MEDICAL GUIDANCE TASK FORCE REQUIREMENTS FOR COVID-19 MANAGEMENT: FALL SPORTS
Medical Response Plan Confirmed Infection Asymptomatic Infection Isolate for at least 10 days from the date of the positive test. If the SA becomes symptomatic, revert to symptomatic infection recommendations below. When returning to activity following isolation, athletes will need 1) cardiac evaluation, 2) clearance from a team physician, and 3) must adhere to an appropriate period of acclimatization following the period of inactivity.
