Looking at the stats, Hawaii has the advantage in almost every category against Mississippi state: kills, blocks, digs etc. Except aces!

Hopefully the 3rd times a charm....

I see what you mean but I’d use that sentiment if they were matching up with UCSB again but this isn’t the case. You could see Hawaii realizing what it had to do e.g. serve tougher (I know we’re beating a horse that has been dead for several months at this point lol). The strategy to serve conservatively is outdated with how the game has evolved. If Texas takes pride in serving tough with their high powered offense, you bet that weaker teams need to follow suit.

Yeah, that's been one of the main weaknesses of this team this year is "weak" serving. I sure hope they can turn their serving up a notch when they play MSU.

A 1st round exit is not really acceptable especially if they exit doing the same thing over and over that hasn’t worked except against teams in the 100-300s in RPI. Serving is a skill that is definitely more controllable than any other in this game.

Which means Hawaii's servers and coaches need to get a little out of their comfort zone on their serving. They aren't playing weak teams anymore. Not every serve should be a swing for the fence, but runs against good teams only start and continue with tough serving.

We need a jump server with rocket 🚀 boosters like Norene and Nikki had. That was always something beautiful to watch.

But they do need to be supplemented with strong jump floaters as well.

Unless you have a Micha freakin Hancock type of serve I don't think it's worth it. Yeah, Most top spin servers can't get enough velocity to make it effective in the women's game. If we can get one as a change-up server, great, but I'll take a solid jump floater like Brooke VanSickle or even Leoniak's serve. It looks to me like the coaching staff doesn't have a unified serving technique and basically just lets the players serve however they are most comfortable. And that's fine, there's a lot of effective ways to serve, but there needs to be an emphasis on aggressive serving for next season. Miss State doesn't have the middles that UCSB does. UCSB's middles shutting down our middles as a big reason why they won. For the most part Idiede/Williams were the best middles on the court against almost every team they played they could pretty much do whatever they wanted. But suddenly, when faced with opposing middles who were also very good, I think they got flustered a bit. I'm also confident it won't happen again.

At this point in time, Johnson has pace but kind of erratic and no change of direction. It will get better and for Demirtas who knows how that looks in real game time.
