I was speculating a Turkish girl, but 2 opposites in this class? I guess the 5 freshmen speculation in the UH press release I posted was true. She has played as a middle too. Haven’t seen a lot of her all around skills but she has thunderous kills. You can’t teach height either. Now I’m curious who the transfers may be RAM seems to like her 6-2.

The Turkish Hammer! Ka’aha’aina-Torres is deciding soon also, big time schools in the running. Does that include us (UH)?

Ilaynda was pounding it from the left side too. Dunno if she can pass but it looks like she could always hit left as well.
Definitely a heavy ball hitter.

This girl, Ilaynda Demirtas, just made the Wahine a National Championship's contending team. Especially, if Jolie decides to return and play one last season. Seems like Robyn is taking a page out of Wade's playbook, and stockpiling the team with foreign players, with a sprinkle of local and mainland players. Can you imagine this girl and Amber playing next to each other, what a blocking wall. Not to mention Williams and Rasmussen, the Wahine will not need a Libero, BVS will suffice, no ball is getting through these 4 girls.

You can see her setting the block and then closing low and tight instead of high and spaced. I like that she controls the pins according to the hitter's position, not just jumping up without a plan. She may have the goods to be a good middle as well.

Thanks for posting the vids Kaipono. I can't watch them right now because I'm at work but what do you think? Can she contribute right away? Or is she a project? I think that she has the potential to start at the OPP position right away. She can definitely hammer the ball down! In the first video I posted, there were some swings that she looked awkward on, but I definitely liked her attacking in the second video. She doesn't have major hops, but at her height, she doesn't really need it as much haha. Puts up a solid block on the right side, and it would be fun to watch her blocking with our middles. Also, I really liked her serving. The area that looks like she may need to improve is her defense, which is probably expected at her height. Most of the highlights of her defense were picking up off-speed shots, though there were a few harder hit balls that she dug up as well. However, I do like that she wasn't afraid to dive for some balls as she was playing in the back row. Additionally, I don't believe there were any highlights of Demirtas hitting the D-ball like we saw from De Goede's film. Though it should be noted that these highlights are from around a year ago, so it is possible that she has improved as well. With Demirtas, Westerberg, De Goede, Akana, and maybe even Leoniak if they shift her to OPP for this season, we have a lot of depth at the opposite position, and it's really making me wonder if they are planning on running a 6-2.

Ilaynda, sort of reminds me of Nikki Taylor. Both tall, and lanky, Opposites. Both have wicked serves, put up big blocks, and can play defense.

If Amber can hit the "Pipe" set and play defense effectively, I do not see Robyn going with a 6-2.

If Devon commits I think the plan is to plug her in at middle. I just can't see a scenario where you have 4-5 potential opposites on the team and not have much middle depth.

The Turkish Hammer! Ka’aha’aina-Torres is deciding soon also, big time schools in the running. There may not be a scholarship available for Ka'aha'aina-Torres. Believe the Turkish Hammer took the last scholarship that was available. The only way a scholarship would become available for Ka'aha'aina-Torres is if a scholarship player decides to transfer out.

I believe that koa said there were 2 scholarships available before the announcement of Demirtas, so we would still have one scholarship left open. However, if we do sign Ka’aha’aina-Torres who is a junior in terms of athletic standing, then we will have exactly one scholarship for 2022 if Byrd chooses not to stay on the team.

With all these players, I am see a lot of intense, and competitive practices when August comes around. The only players locked in to starting positions are Williams and Igiede, in the Middle. Every other position is wide open.

I find it hard to see her switching to the middle from playing as one of the best OHs at the high school level. After this coming season, we will have Igiede, Kiraly, Westerberg, and Akana who can play in the middle, and perhaps they may try Demirtas at the middle as well because it seems she has some experience playing in that position as well.

This was previously discussed. Glagau was on scholarship for only 1 indoor season. Ikenaga is probably not on scholarship. Seniors don’t count against scholarship totals. I’m counting 3 scholarships to give out for fall 2021. Now 2 after the Demirtas signing.
