sorry for OT. why should the japanese come back? they have a very low vaccination rate. lately I only leave 2%. and europeans are still locked out although the numbers are low and the vaccination rate will soon catch up with the usa? all that nonsense Biden no better than trump. what should the Travelban bring? The delta variant is already in place in 42 states. so the ban brings nothing. Biden scared without end. is like in Germany. Only when the number of new infections in 7 days is below 50 to 100,000 per day does it mean there is a major relaxation. then it says under 20 and now in the single-digit range in many districts it is even 0 and hardly anything changes. here in switzerland, still wearing a mask, we had 1 to 2 new infections per 100,000 residents in the last few days. all spun. In the interest of a lighter, more VB-related query: how is Hanna doing these days?

Wasn’t Europe dealing with a mostly ineffective vaccine? Forget the name of it. Whereas the US top 2 vaccines(Pfizer and Moderna) are the most effective in circulation. Several US states have begun reopening since June 15. The only states still dealing with flareups in case numbers are the ones with low vaccination rates. Not exactly sure if your information is 100% accurate. If the nordic states are still practicing the “let the virus run its course” type of method, then you are probably in your best bet wearing masks. Probably the LEAST you could be doing.

The virus is still here. It’s not about being scared, it’s about getting more people protected with the vaccine. People are still dying because the virus is still here and the delta variant is gaining. More people need to be vaccinated for the governor to feel that a public outbreak is less likely to happen. A packed Stan Arena is irresponsible. Too many Kupuna at the matches and even if they are vaccinated, they can get infected and be very ill and with their high risk factor, no one knows what could happen…strokes, heart failure, respiratory problems… long term, no one knows. He wants more people vaccinated. But he will open up soon, school is coming. UH already has the schedule done i’m guessing, just not released.

The future holds the virus will always be here. One strain or another. The future public health policy, worldwide, is anticipating we will all be needing booster shots eventually, likely annually with the flu shot. The at risk populations have been identified, and elective vaccines are available now that are effective against all known strains. Among our kupuna, of which I am one, the CDC reports that 99.4% of the 65> population in Hawai'i has at least one vax jab, and that 83.1% are fully vaccinated. Dr. Green, Lt. Governor of Hawai'i, indicated in a recent interview that it's desirable that we get to 70% of the total pop. vaccinated, but that he believes we are safe now and is ready to argue it's time to open up. He has stated that other metrics need to be considered in public health policy other than COVID vax% of total population.
It's time for the Governor to end his mutation into benevolent despot. Us kupuna all have had the opportunity to be vaccinated, we are as safe as we can be. Those who have chosen not to be vaccinated are still free to make that choice; their bodies, their choice. And they must be free to choose to attend or not attend entertainment events.
It's time to open up, and for the Governor to stop glorifying in being a benevolent dictator.

He is not just the governor of what you want. He has to govern for everyone, even for those who are at risk and for those who are choosing not get the vaccine. Despite what people think, he could care less if you want him to open up right now. He made the announcement that he is looking to open up soon, but he is relying on not just his own judgement, but relying on the health experts who are monitoring the situation and using their expert resources and knowledge. They have the responsibility to protect public health.

Which by the way, have earned little public trust.

I don't know why the Japanese should come back, but I think many of the economic experts locally wants the governor to woo them back by making it easy for them to do so. Of course its only up to the Japanese government. For the economists, mainland tourists will be gone and then they need replacements. Health safety is not their main priority so of course they just want it done. They can say, "we want everyone to be safe." But what they really want is to solidify the economic gains throughout the year. Logistically, parts of Japan are still surging with the virus, so there's that. To some extent, our worldwide competitors are in the same boat. Japan is not making it easy for its citizens to vacation anywhere right now. Vaccines are not easily available still.

Well let’s all understand that it’s pretty premature to denigrate anyone for impeding the possibility of a session with a SSC at full or close to full capacity.
We still have 2 months people lol let’s discuss issues that are more geared towards the team itself, for all we know things will be fine come August.
Covid is our new common cold. We have several vaccines, we have several methods of treatment. What we DO NOT have yet is a society that has accepted that and moved on, so let’s expedite that process on Volleytalk at LEAST.
Does anyone know if Mia and the foreign recruits have made their way to campus yet? I figure Johnson hasn’t because girls junior nationals have not finished yet but I am unsure of what prep end of the season looks like for Netherlands, Turkey, and Poland.

The health department just announced concern about the community spread of the delta variant. Again, if you think these findings do not influence the Governor... good luck with that. He has been leaning on the department of Health from the beginning and will continue to do so. If Dr. Char and her management team communicate with the Lt governor and governor their concerns about the situation culminating with CDC findings, I'm guessing the governor will consider delaying opening up. So wait and see. health.hawaii.gov/news/newsroom/hawaii-department-of-health-laboratory-detects-community-spread-of-delta-variant/HAWAI‘I DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH LABORATORY DETECTS COMMUNITY SPREAD OF DELTA VARIANT Posted on Jun 22, 2021 in COVID-19, Newsroom HONOLULU – The Hawai‘i Department of Health’s State Laboratories Division (SLD) confirms the SARS-CoV-2 variant B.1.617.2, also known as the Delta variant of concern, is spreading in the state. To date there have been three cases of the Delta variant associated with travel from the continental United States. Two of those cases are on O‘ahu and one is on Hawai‘i Island. In addition, the State Laboratories Division has identified the Delta variant in a specimen from an O‘ahu resident with no history of travel. The Department of Health is investigating to determine the extent of household and community transmission. All the persons with COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant have been symptomatic; none have been hospitalized. Only one of the four persons was fully vaccinated for COVID-19. In the three travel-related cases, all household members and close contacts who were fully vaccinated for COVID-19 have tested negative. “A recently published study from Scotland found that the risk of COVID-19 hospital admission was approximately double in those with the Delta variant when compared to those with the B.1.1.7 strain, also known as the U.K. or Alpha variant,” said State Laboratories Division Administrator Edward Desmond. The Delta variant, which was first detected in India, now makes up approximately 10% of all cases in the U.S. The Delta variant could soon become the dominant strain of SARS-CoV-2 in the nation according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “Given what we know about the Delta variant and the cases already identified in Hawai‘i, we expect to detect additional cases in the coming weeks,” said Dr. Sarah Kemble, the acting State Epidemiologist. “Our best defense against of the variants is to get vaccinated as soon as possible.” The COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. are effective against COVID-19 variants currently spreading in the nation. The State Laboratories Division began genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 in June 2020. It now examines 50 to 100 specimens a week and has developed a testing algorithm designed to find variants in a timely manner.

You mean like Wahine volleyball? Lol 😆 Never thought I’d miss seeing the Jack in the Box Blimp dropping taco coupons and witnessing adult fans nearly falling over their seats to snatch em up. Whatever I catch I give away, most recently to Kelly Majam’s kid. Nice family.

Just saw that her team’s NCAA home run record was broken this year but by a girl from the islands. That’s pretty cool! Homeruns are made in Hawaii!
