Yes sir, she hit 30 round trippers in her redshirt Freshman year. But I digress, back to volleyball! A poster a few pages back had posted an open gym with a few Wahine involved. Wondering if that’s still a trend over there? Lots of athletes in CA making the most out of the the competitive open gyms nearby

You mean like Wahine volleyball? Lol 😆 Never thought I’d miss seeing the Jack in the Box Blimp dropping taco coupons and witnessing adult fans nearly falling over their seats to snatch em up. Whatever I catch I give away, most recently to Kelly Majam’s kid. Nice family. Yesssss!! Watching the keiki run around the arena trying to get taco coupons. Lol.🤣

UH will be playing indoor sports this fall. There will be fans in attendance. The only thing that can stop it is Governor Ige. Not his experts. Which by the way, have earned little public trust.
The health department just announced concern about the community spread of the delta variant. Again, if you think these findings do not influence the Governor... good luck with that. He has been leaning on the department of Health from the beginning and will continue to do so. If Dr. Char and her management team communicate with the Lt governor and governor their concerns about the situation culminating with CDC findings, I'm guessing the governor will consider delaying opening up. So wait and see. health.hawaii.gov/news/newsroom/hawaii-department-of-health-laboratory-detects-community-spread-of-delta-variant/Ok, we are all tired of the topic, but today's Delta headlines deserve a little attention, or some will go away thinking the sky is falling and fall sports with it. I hope there is volleyball news to discuss soon as well.
Delta was detected in India in December, and since then it's been detected just about everywhere. Over 90% of new infections in Britain are Delta. The Brits have been dealing with it for longer than the U.S., but its been spreading across the U.S. and weeks ago it accounted for about 6% of all new U.S. infections. For weeks, experts have warned Delta will likely become predominant. Here is the latest good news from the Brits:
14 June, Public Health England re Delta: " - the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is 96% effective against hospitalisation after 2 doses - the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is 92% effective against hospitalisation after 2 doses These are comparable with vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation from the Alpha variant. Further work remains underway to establish the level of protection against mortality from the Delta variant. However, as with other variants, this is expected to be high." www.gov.uk/government/news/vaccines-highly-effective-against-hospitalisation-from-delta-variant In Hawai'i, kupuna and vulnerable populations have largely fully vaxxed, far exceeding the 70% benchmark. These vaxxed populations are well protected already, and may go about living their lives normally. But the young and healthy have delayed. So, ratcheting up concern over Delta might be warranted in the reluctant to vax young adult population. But the problem with scaremongering campaigns is they are hard to control and frequently consume all reason.
If reason prevails, Hawai'i will continue its vax campaign, and Governor Ige will heed Dr. Green's argument to improve the benchmark metrics being used to open. COVID is here to stay, be it Alpha or Delta or some other variant, and we likely will be getting booster vax made available, possibly annually with the flu shot, for many years.
We have vaxxed enough that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all down in Hawai'i, across the mainland, even in Britain which is 90% Delta variant, so all need to be careful about fearmongering. The public may get tired of those crying wolf.

Yooo... come on everyone. We can all go to the Star Advertiser or local news outlets. We're not supposed to bring politics onto this board (I mean, there's a pinned thread dedicated to that), and with all respect, COVID has been a political issue since it came about. It's been 15 months already of this and it robbed of us of a 2021 season. I'd assume many of us don't come to this board for local updates on COVID...

Hoping she stays home and become the next Lily 🥰… I'm gonna bet she'll wait until closer to signing day. Not sure about top choice but Washington or Hawaii might be better for her if she's thinking about playing time. If she goes away for college then whatever, there are other great recruits out there.

Who was the last Spike and Serve player to play for Hawaii women’s? I know they are a strong boys club but wasn’t sure on if they were the top/top 5 club in Hawaii or if Devin is one of their star athletes.

People, this is suppose to be a Volleyball website, and this thread is suppose to be about Wahine Volleyball. Why are people talking about the Hawaii State Government on this thread, or for that matter this Website. Take those things to another Website please. Whoever is running this Volleytalk.proboards, should kick these people out of here, enough already.

Being vaccinated does not mean you can go about living your life regularly, especially if you are at high risk, being elderly is considered high risk. Old age is high risk in itself plus any underlying pre-existing conditions. You can get infected and be symptomatic which can lead to serious complications from pre-existing conditions. That could lead to death. The CDC does not know what the virus will do to elderly high risk people in the long run. The solution is more people getting vaccinated so that they themselves will not be a carrier. More variants cannot happen if the virus cannot reproduce. And the only way they can reproduce is to infect someone who does not have spike antibodies onboard.

Meaning the vaccine itself never took effect. The vaccine can, has, and will prevent the majority of people from the worst effects of the virus. Now please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO MORE!!!! On the subject of Women's Volleyball . . . we know that the Big West schedule has been finalized because UCSD has posted its conference schedule. I wonder why the Big West or other teams haven't posted their schedules. The California road trip I really look forward to is the gorgeous trip up the coast to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. It makes for a great weekend vacation. UCSD does back to back at Cal Poly and Bakersfield, which would be a bummer (for the fans) if Hawaii also does that. On the other hand, it would break up going back to back against the two strong UCSB and Poly teams, and I can see how Bakersfield to San Luis Obispo, and Northridge to Santa Barbara, make sense in terms of the bus rides.
