Noooooo! Although she was known as a great player, she’ll leave her as a great coach despite not being here for too long. She was great for the girls and program and will be dearly missed I bet they’re wishing JH was still around. What a mistake to let him go. Now Matlin is regretting that decision. Meanwhile JH is probably feeling some sort of vindication for being let go. Thanks Coach Ang for all you’ve done. We’ll miss you. Letting go jeff on the beach side was a bit off putting to me. He did really good. But I’ve heard rumblings him and players did not mix well together. Not sure how true that is, just what I’ve heard

I wonder if Mike Maidment(Anna’s Dad) wants the beach job. He is currently helping Kevin Wong’s Spike and Serve beach staff. His write up and coaching background looks pretty impressive. Might be kind of awkward for Anna but might be a good candidate for UH. Canada has been sending us very good beach players and he could continue that pipeline. Mike was a former professional player himself and also coached a professional team from Japan. The dude got plenty of coaching experience. Come to think of it, he could even help Robyn and fill Anglelica’s spot of being the associate HC for indoor and the HC for beach. www.facebook.com/permalink.php?id=347638971916539&story_fbid=5476531062360612Milan Zarkovic or Josh Walker would be good hires or at least borrowed for a season? Kevin Wong for beach would be 💰💰💰

Kevin Wong for beach would be 💰💰💰 I thought that but I think Wade want his coaches to be all in this season since this year’s men team will be a work in progress. Also not too sure about the chemistry between Robyn and those coaches from the men’s team. I remember one year Chris McLaughlin took a year off from Punahou and help coached Stanford. Maybe Shoji can do that. Elevate Kaleo to 2nd in charge, give him the job of scouting and breaking up films and let Dave Shoji just coach. Certainly, Shoji is not going to chart or break down game films like an assistant but his coaching and his knowledge of the game can certainly help in the practice gym.

Wong got a good thing going with his SAS volleyball organization so I’m not sure his heart will be in being a Coach. I think UH need to look for someone who will give 100% and is itching to move up the coaching rank. I’m sure Wong have had many chances to be a HC somewhere and he probably didn’t want to pursue that path. Wong also has a gig being a color commentator for beach volleyball nationally and also does local HS volleyball for OC 16 so he is going to have to give up a lot to coach for peanuts at UH.

If Coach Ang was responsible for setting up the international pipeline, that will be a huge loss, it's the best way for us to get top talent, we aren't going to be getting many of the Top 40 players or so.
I think the beach side would be ok. There are way more quality beach coaches than there are D1 teams--they will find someone. (Assuming they decide to go back to separating the two jobs)

I mean, we can hope. Coach Ang seemingly gave up a law career in Sweden to coach at UH. Chances are that the new hire will have to pull double duties. A local/close ties candidate might also be likely.

Kevin does not except for when his brother Scott coached here. I can see Wong being a HC for UCLA if Stein decides to leave but I don’t sense that Kevin has the desire to coach at UH. I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t get that sense. Robyn is probably going to have to either get someone who played with her or was coached by her or knows her personally. I fear bad fit if UH was to get some stranger who doesn’t understand Robyn and the way she does things. Robyn and Ang were perfect cause they know each other very well. Would Tara Hittle leave Pepperdine and come here if she was given the title of associate HC?

I’m just saying that there might be a chance that Kevin Wong might want a new challenge. The hiring of Coach Ang was unexpected. She was half way around the world and was just starting in her law career. Also, Kevin Wong can just hire other coaches to help manage his SAS club.

Here’s a name that popped into my head….Daniel Rasay. I know he is coaching at Stanford now but it’s super tough to move up the ladder in the men’s game due to such a small amount of team playing. He did coach women when he first started coaching at Mills College and Menlo where he was the HC so he is not foreign to the women’s game.
Maybe he may want to move back to the women’s game since there are more opportunities to climb the ladder and become a HC. See Dan Fisher. Fisher was on the men’s staff at UH and now is running a successful women’s program at PITT.
The last 2 associate HC at UH(not counting Ang) became a HC at other schools. Mike Sealy at UCLA and Scott Wong at Pepperdine. Rasay would be smart to make that move. A couple of successful seasons under Robyn could help him land other gigs. Being the #3 guy at Stanford is not going to help you move up.

Wonder if coach Ang leaving will have any impact on the foreign recruits that she helped get over?

Wonder if coach Ang leaving will have any impact on the foreign recruits that she helped get over? Doubt it, she had an inside track with Hellvig and just knows where to look and who to talk to international. I’m sure she and Coach Rob will still be in communication and she can help where she can but i truly do not think the immediate issues will be with recruiting. Especially seeing as how we have a ton of depth currently on the team. Albeit untested depth, but depth nonetheless and all excited to compete as Wahine seeing as how there were no transfers out and the Big West cheated these ladies out of a season. What the Wahine need is someone who can impact the offense and blocking in a big way. Everyone else on staff can manage setting, servile receive, defense, even strategy. What is missing with Coach Ang’s Departure is someone who can help this team develop their at the net game.

I could imagine, this late in the game, elevating Baxter to Associate HC & bringing somebody in at the lower ranks. Could this be the opening Lily (Kahumoku) Olteanu has been waiting for to come home? Doubtful, but bringing any former players from Wahine lore would be exciting. Very interested to see what money moves Coach Ah Mow makes. She and her staff have been doing a remarkable job of elevating Wahine volleyball!
