A new UH job posting for Temporary Women's Assistant Volleyball coach was posted. Could this mean a possible coach Ang return? Who will fill the temp role? Dave Shoji? Tom Pestolesi? An ideal candidate would be someone that would be willing to take on both assistant for indoor and HC for beach this season. Then when Ang comes back, that person can be the HC for beach only. I think someone like Nick Castello/Puna Kniho could fill that slot if they want to pursue that route. Both were volunteer assistants under Robyn a couple of years ago. Robyn knows them and they know Robyn so It would be a fit. As for beach, UH could promote Evan to HC and put Castello/Kaniho as the assistant. It’s hard to get coaches who have to relocate from the mainland. Nick is currently here(I think ) and the other guy who I can feel can be a candidate is Mike Maidment(Anna’s Dad) who is currently coaching at SAS. I see Mike working with his daughter at Queens almost everyday. The guy has experience coaching indoor and beach in Canada.

One thing not mentioned is that the Big West has balanced the schedule a little more in Hawaii's favor. Instead of Cal Poly and Santa Barbara on back to back nights, they have been split with Bakersfield as Cal Poly's travel partner and CSUN as UCSB's partner. Hawaii is still playing back to back nights, but at least it's a little more balanced than taking on the other top teams on consecutive nights.

Women's Volleyball 07.16.2021 Wahine Release Exciting 2021 Schedule Story LinksHONOLULU – After more than 20 months without Rainbow Wahine volleyball, the University of Hawai'i volleyball program is just weeks away from their 2019 Big West title defense season as the 2021 schedule was announced Friday morning. Hawai'i will face two PAC-12 schools, a SEC school and two 2020 NCAA Tournament contestants during the 2021 season. "We are very excited for the upcoming 2021 season," Wahine head coach Robyn Ah Mow said. "These women, along with the other 10 Big West programs have been waiting for this opportunity for the last year and a half. I can confidently say that the Rainbow Wahine are eager to step onto the teraflex on August 27th against a very good Fairfield team. "This schedule will be great competition against teams that will do well in their respective conferences and will prepare us for our 20 match conference season." The Rainbow Wahine will open the season with a tournament in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center comprised of Fairfield, Marquette and Texas A&M before heading on the road to Utah for off-island non-conference games for the second-consecutive season. Hawai'i's first game against Fairfield will be the first women's volleyball match played by the Wahine in 623 days. The Wahine will play Utah Valley in Orem, Utah before playing in the Utah Classic in Salt Lake City, hosted by the University of Utah. Hawai'i will play San Diego and Utah in the tournament. Hawai'i will then return home for two matches against USC Sept. 10-11, followed by an Alumni/Green and White game on Sept. 17. The 'Bows will have 20 conference matches in 2021, up from the previous 16 home and away matches the conference used to play as the Big West welcomed UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield to the conference in 2020-21. The Wahine will open Big West play on the road at UC Riverside with travel up the state to UC Davis the same weekend. Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton will open the home Big West slate Oct. 1 and 3 before the Wahine face Big West newcomer UC San Diego in San Diego. Hawai'i will host CSU Bakersfield in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Oct. 16. Senior Day will be against UC Santa Barbara Thanksgiving Weekend on Nov. 27 before the NCAA Tournament is set to begin Dec. 2 at to be determined host sites. The 2021 Rainbow Wahine will return eight letterwinners from the 2019 roster including redshirt senior Brooke Van Sickle and freshmen Amber Igiede, both accumulating over 200 kills in 2019. The other six lettewinners include Braelyn Akana, Janelle Gong, Kyra Hanawahine, Riley Wagoner Tiffany Westerberg and Skyler Williams. I guess, JR not coming back to play forUH is finalized by this posting... Now we all can move on...SAD, but Good luck to her in her future...

Is it too early to write out a “Line-Up You want to start” and a “Line-Up you think will start?”

My predictions
OH1: Leoniak, Johnson and Wagoner can sub in if she struggles
OH2: BVS
MH1: Igiede
MH2: Williams, but it's a tossup between her and Kiraly
S: Lang back row, Byrd front row. I can't see Lang blocking and I can't see Byrd digging. Byrd looks good at the block and Lang has awesome serving and floor defense
OPP: Westerberg, Demirtas may surprise though. She looked better in recent footage than in her highlights, also reportedly 6'6 now
L/OH: Hanawahine or Wagoner or Johnson depending on what offense RAM wants to run

I can see Robyn going back to that “no libero” lineup of a couple of years ago where the setters will come in for the MBs and not the Opp. Hitters will be BVS, Mia Johnson, Martyna Leoniak and surprise….Riley Wagoner. I like this lineup because this is supposed to be our best passing lineup. To get the middle going, we need to have our best passers in there. Not a lot of size but Robyn can sub in the freshmen(or Westerberg) if she feels she need size at the net.
MBs will be Amber and Skyler with Anna coming in if one’s struggling.
Kate will set 3 rotation and Mylana will set 3
Of course, we haven’t start training camp yet so….. I would love to see Westerberg and Akana step up their game and become factors. Tiff is 6-3 and powerful. If she can be the terminator at OPP then we will have size at the position. I know Akana is not a passer but I hope she has been working on it and come into camp and surprise everyone. She is quick and can jump. Whether she can pass will determine if she will play because I don’t see her beating out any of the middles and UH is loaded at Opp so that is not a place for her. At 6-0 Brae need to be playing on the left.

Right now I’m more concerned about the immediate problem. Who’s gonna be the new assistant coach! That should be first and foremost then worrying about lineups.

Right now I’m more concerned about the immediate problem. Who’s gonna be the new assistant coach! That should be first and foremost then worrying about lineups. Yes it is but we have no idea and we have already mentioned a few names. Guessing the lineup is more fun. Also throwing a monkey wrench into the situation is someone mentioning that UH is advertising the position as a “Temporary “position, which will even shrink the pool of applicants. I know assistants work on one year contracts BUT you don’t want to be in a position where you get the job, do a good job and then get let go when Ang comes back. You bet when Ang is ready, she will get her job back.

IMO= I think they're looking for temp this season and will find FT after the 2021 season is over. If the temp does a good or great job, they might get offered a FT position.Maybe this is an audition for the open position. Who knows? Only HC Robyn knows...
