2021 Spring Fantasy Volleyball Rules


Qualification for Fall 2021 Fantasy League

	a. The Top-3 Finishers from the 2021 Spring Fantasy Volleyball League will automatically receive invitations to participate in the 2021 Fall Fantasy Volleyball League. The 2021 Spring Admins will also receive invitations to play in the 2021 Fall Fantasy Volleyball League. vbjustice is also guaranteed participation in the Fall 2021 League.
	b. If the season or league is cancelled for any reason, the Fall 2019 Top 3, 2019 Admins, and 2021 Spring Admins will have automatic invites to the Fall 2021 League. vbjustice will also have a guaranteed place in this scenario as well.

2021 Spring Fantasy Volleyball Schedule & Format

1. The League will begin competition with matches on Friday, January 22nd through Saturday, April 3rd.

a. Week 1 competition will consist of three days of matches (Friday-Sunday), Weeks 2-10 of competition will consist of all matches played from Monday through Sunday of each week, while the final week (Week 11) will consist of all matches played from Monday through Saturday, April 3rd.

2. The league is formatted into a full 11-week round-robin with each participant playing every other participant once in a weekly head-to-head match-up of five statistical categories: kills per match, assists per match, aces per match, digs per match, and total blocks per match.

a. Weekly match-ups are predetermined based on draft order (see below).

3. Due to COVID-19 and lack of complete schedules and availability, there has been a change in eligible conferences. There will be 14 eligible conferences. Conferences with a * are new additions, and may only be for this season. The Big West has decided to cancel competition and will not be eligible for this edition. Keep in mind that many conferences and teams will have complete weeks without competition, so it is advised to draft a variety of players and conferences on your roster.

Scoring & Standings

1. Standings will be determined by the total number of points accumulated overall.

a. Points will be accumulated as follows, and are based on who wins the most categories in the weekly match-up:

	5-0 win = 3 points to the winner
	4-1 win = 3 points to the winner
	3-2 win = 2 points to the winner, 1 point to the loser

i. In the event of category ties, points accumulate as follows:

	3.5-1.5 = 2.5 points to the winner, 0.5 points to the loser
	2.5-2.5 = 1.5 points to the winner, 1.5 points to the loser

	b. Tiebreakers: 1) overall record, 2) head-to-head, 3) set record
	c. If still tied through first three categories, the participant with the last draft pick wins.

2. An athlete’s official stats for the purpose of this league will be the stats reported on the NCAA Statistics website. In the case of scoring disputes, NCAA stats (vs. school stats) will be the official tally.


The Draft

1. Draft will begin on Wednesday, January 6th at 9:00 AM ET.
2. Each participant will have an 8-hour maximum time limit to post their pick in each round. The 8-hour clock will begin at the time of the preceding participant’s pick. This will continue to be shortened based on the pace of the draft.

	a. When making your pick, please list them as follows: Jordan Thompson - OH - Cincinnati
	b. Tag the following person in the draft order that it is their turn. (Keep in mind the draft runs in both directions, serpentine style)
	c. DO NOT edit a draft-pick post. An edited draft pick may result in skipping your pick until the next turn.

3. You may post your draft pick in the official fantasy thread during your pick window, or, if you won’t be available (or aren’t sure if you will make the time limit when your turn comes up), you may send your pick to an administrator via PM to post on your behalf.
4. Serpentine drafting (the draft order reverses in each round) will be in effect. With 12 players, that means the 1st player in Draft Order will have the 1st pick and 24th pick, while the 12th player will have the 12th AND 13th pick (back-to-back) picks.
5. If a drafted athlete is later found to have been removed from her team’s online roster OR the team or athlete will cancel their season entirely, the participant may replace the athlete during their next pick window.
6. If a participant mistakenly drafts an athlete that has already been drafted, or drafts an athlete from an ineligible conference, the draft WILL continue on to the next league player, but that participant can draft an eligible athlete to replace their ineligible pick at ANY time. Simply asking "Has Khalia Lanier been drafted?" can avoid this problem.


Rosters:

1. An athlete must be listed on her team’s online roster by the time of the first match of the season in order to be eligible.

a. If an athlete is removed from her team’s online roster during the season (i.e. Ceasar in 2018), she can only be replaced with an add/drop.

2. Each team roster will be comprised of 15 athletes.
3. Team rosters:

a. Each team roster must include all of the following at all times:

	- 5 OHs/OPPs (no differentiation between pin attackers required)
	- 4 Middle Blockers
	- 3 Setters
	- 3 Liberos

b. During the draft, an athlete’s roster position will the position she is listed on the school website's official roster. If there is a dispute, admins reserve the right to waive/change this requirement if it is aligned with fairness. The objective is to use players in the Fantasy Players in the positions they are playing on the court. For example, Jonni Parker will be considered an OH/OPP for league purposes, as she has never actually set at Penn State in her first two years despite being listed as a S/OPP.

- If an athlete played multiple positions (i.e. S/OPP), they may count toward either position.

	c. An athlete may not fill more than one position at a time on the team roster.

	d. After the draft, the position that the athlete currently plays at the time of the add/drop will be the position she can fill on a team roster, regardless of if her position changes later or the position is different than what is listed on her team’s online roster.
	e. Changes to a team roster are allowed in the form of an add/drop. Participants may make unlimited add/drops after the draft is complete through the end of Week 3, Sunday, February 7th at 11:59 PM ET. After that, participants are allotted THREE add/drops (roster changes) for the remainder of the season.

	- Any add/drop made during a week of competition will not take effect until the next week of competition.

4. Active Rosters (weekly rosters):

a. Each participant will choose 8 active players to place on their “active roster” for competition each week in the following format:

	b. Only stats from the athletes on the active roster will count toward team totals.

c. Any athlete(s) designated as a libero may not accumulate kills or blocks at any time, even if that player also satisfies another minimum position requirement (i.e. L/OH Kelli Bates in 2017).

d. Active roster submissions are due by Monday every week by 12:00 PM ET (except Week 1, see below). Rosters must be submitted to an administrator via PM or posted publicly in the official league thread. trojansc is operating the rosters, so it would be ideal to send your rosters to him. If you are playing trojansc , send your roster to any administrator. trojansc will send his roster to all 3 of the admins.

	- Active rosters for Week 1 are due by Thursday, January 21st at 11:59 PM ET.

	f. If you publicly post your weekly roster on the thread, no changes can be made. Otherwise, the latest roster submission before the deadline to an administrator will be your active roster for the week.
	g. If you do not submit an active roster by the deadline, your roster from the previous week of competition will be carried over to the current week.

- If you do not submit an active roster for the first week of competition, your first 8 draft picks that satisfy the required position minimums will comprise your first active roster.

Substitutions / List of Substitutes:

Due to COVID-19, cancellations and unavailability are going to be inevitable. For this year's league, to keep the most competitive balance and interest, there will be pre-determined order of subs in case your original active roster players are unavailable. 

When you submit your 8-team weekly roster, you must submit a list of substitutes.

Criteria for Substitution:

1. A player will be subbed for only IF:
a) all of their matches are cancelled or postponed for the week after they were expected to play
OR
b) if the player does not play at all in any single match of the week (see pt. 5 for more details).  

2. Substitutions will be made only in the pecking order submitted with your weekly roster submission. For example, your setter on the active roster gets her matches cancelled or does not play. The first eligible setter on your substitution list will be put in place as long as they played at any point in a match that week. If the first eligible setter on the sub list did not play at all, the next setter will be made as the substitute. This goes for all positions. If multiple players need to be substituted, the "player of any position" substitute will only be made AFTER all substitutions are made the primary 7 active players. This is not a decision by the player, it is an automatic. To be more clear, the "player of any position" also cannot move into one of the 7 primary active players either and used as a substitute. Only one of the 7 substitutes on the list will be used to sub in for the 7 primary active players. 

3. There is NO LIMIT on the number of substitutions that can be made. As long as they meet the requirements, all 7 "bench" players could be subbed in for eligible active starters.

4. Substitutions are automatically made and pre-determined based on your roster submission. If a player plays in one match of a 2-match week, she may NOT be substituted. Substitutions will only be made for players that have zero's in all stat lines for the week. 

5. If a player is in the lineup with zero scheduled matches that week simply due to roster error or not submitting a roster and using the previous weeks, she will not be eligible to subbed for. A player must have scheduled matches cancelled to be eligible for a sub. If a player's team plays matches that week and she does not play a single point for any reason, she IS eligible for a substitute. 

6. It should be obvious which players are eligible for a "sub" and using the submitted roster sub list players should be able to score matches without any assistance of an administrator. If there is any unique scenario or question about a potential sub, the admins not involved in the match will determine whether a sub is made or not.

7. For players who play multiple positions (S/OPP) that are not active in any week: They must be given a designated position on the substitution list (S or OPP, for this example). This player can still sub into the "Player of Any Position" spot of the roster regardless of whatever designated position is given. However, this player cannot be used as a sub/back-up for BOTH setter and OPP in the a weekly roster. Also, you may change this designation from week to week. That player can be listed on the sub list as a Setter for Week 3 and as an Opposite for week 4.


Weekly Play:

1. Stats from each athlete will be tallied and then divided by the number of matches her team played in that week, yielding kills per match, assists per match, aces per match, digs per match, and total blocks per match for each athlete.

	a. Blocks will be counted individually (i.e. BS and BA each count as 1 block).
	b. Each active athlete’s per-match numbers will then be added together to give the team total in each category. Weekly match-up results will be determined by these team total figures.
	c. Non-D1 matches do not count and should be ignored.

2. Participants are responsible for scoring their own matches, compiling the results, and reporting the results to the league (participants are also encouraged to track their opponent’s team for accountability) in the official league thread each week after all matches have concluded.

	a. Any disputes will be resolved by an administrator not involved in the dispute using the figures from the NCAA stats website.
	b. Match results will be certified and unable to be changed no later than the beginning of the following week (i.e. Week 1 results will be final no later than the start of Week 3).

Yep. You have pick #1, but then have to watch 20+ picks go by until you pick again at #24 and #25! (I'm in the same boat, with picks #12, #13, and then watching 20+ fly by as well.)

But can I propose that competitive weeks are Tuesday thru Monday? Big Sky is playing all of the weekends as Sun-Mon. It'll be weird that those matches are in separate weeks.
