Congrats to the Nourse sisters. Thank you @volley2021 for posting the win from the twins. Please be mindful of your comments because many are hurtful to these young hard working athletes. Nourse twins mom, Sherri Nourse This is a general comment... I am not an 'SC insider, just a volleyball fan. I also participate in a softball forum for college for the past 15 years. I have observed conversations over the years between players' parents, usually constructive, sometimes heated, but, hell, it's an internet forum. The thing is, CRITICISM is part and parcel of fan internet forums. Fans don't reserve criticism and only post praise. That is not human, it is fake. And given that fans will criticize, whether it be about Formula 1 racecar drivers, pro or college football or basketball players, etc... I think parents should understand that it is part of the landscape (and being female doesn't change anything, otherwise that would be patronizing) of fan internet forums. Ask your daughters, they do NOT want to be coddled or protected. If you are the type of parent who gets so nervous when your daughter is playing that you can't bear to watch, and pace back and forth just out of sight... you know the type... then don't ever visit an internet discussion forum utilized by fans. . Even ff you can accept victory along with defeat, criticism along with praise, then maybe, STILL avoid these forums, cuz sometimes people are just unfair without trying to be rude or hurtful. I don't think anyone wants to cancel fan forums. Or silence them. Or only post praise.

Since I was looking at many national recruits for the U19 thread, I started to think what USC’s team will look like in the 2023 season (the one after next season) when the very strong 2022 recruiting class will join.
Here’s how I see it 20 months from now.
Graduating/Departing before 2023: Tina Graudina, Julia Scoles, Sammy Slater, Hailey Harward, Sunny Villapando, Caroline Schafer. Schafer is confirmed for 2022 season, but Villapando is not confirmed yet that I could find.
4th year of eligibility, because of 2020 pandemic year: Mollie Ebertin
3rd year of eligibility, some because of 2020 pandemic year: Harper Hallgren Audrey Nourse Nicole Nourse Megan Kraft Delaynie Maple
2nd year of eligibility: Olivia Bakos (Potential redshirt in 2021) Caitlin Cummings (Potential redshirt in 2021) Colby Bennett Ava Gallien Ava Kirunchyk Tatiana Rusich Savannah Davis Eden McCoy
1st year of eligibility: Gabby Walker Bailey Showalter Macey Butler Delaney Karl Mabyn Thomas Madison White Klaire VanDeusen

Walker, Showalter, Karl, and VanDeusen. Are all these girls tall enough play as blockers? I see Showalter that way. Not sure if the other's fit that role. Did USC run any teams that were split blockers?

Yep, my mistake on Butler. Karl is listed in the Volleyballmag.com high school lists last year as 6’2”. Klaire VanDeusen is listed as 6’0” so maybe can go either way like Gabby Walker who’s 5’11”. This piece was published May 20, but it wasn’t posted here so I’ll share the link. Haley Hallgren is such an amazingly accomplished young woman! In 4 years at USC, she gets her Bachelor’s in Business and Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She then joins the Univ of Michigan indoor team to presumably work on another advanced degree. Soon to be Dr. Hallgren? Wow! mgoblue.com/news/2021/5/20/hallgren-added-to-volleyball-2021-class.aspxRosen on Hallgren ... "Haley is our first graduate transfer, and our first transfer we have had from a beach volleyball program. With that, it is on our staff to figure out where she best fits our program. She is very athletic and has a great all-around skill set. She is a good passer, setter, defender and attacker. Coming from USC, she is a proven winner and has an expectation to win at the highest level. We are very excited to see what her transition to the indoor game looks like."

Congrats to Audrey and Nicole Nourse for making the USAV U21 Team and getting to play in Thailand. They lost convincingly to Denaburg/Anderson in the finals. Interesting that Denaburg didn’t pair with Powers like before. ”Nourse and Nourse claimed silver at the 2021 FIVB U21 World Championship Trials in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on July 9. They will participate in the U21 Beach World Championship in Roi Et, Thailand, Sept. 24-29. The twin Trojans will also participate in a training camp July 26-28 in Fort Lauderdale alongside the Beach NDTP Summer Training Series.” ”Earlier in the summer (June 25), All-American freshman Megan Kraft (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Delaynie Maple (San Diego, Calif.) were two of six female athletes named to the USA Beach U19 Girl's Team. Kraft and Maple took silver at the U19 FIVB World Championship Trials June 22-24 in Huntington Beach, Calif. and may participate in the U19 Beach World Championship (Sept. 15-19) in Roi Et, Thailand, should Team USA receive an additional berth into the field. Additionally, on June 3, Kraft and All-American Julia Scoles (Mooresville, N.C.) were among the 13 women chosen to the U.S. Collegiate Beach National Team (BCNT).” usctrojans.com/news/2021/7/14/womens-beach-volleyball-usc-beach-volleyballs-nourse-twins-named-to-usav-u21-team.aspxusavolleyball.org/story/beach-u21-national-team-named-after-u21-world-championship-trials/

Three new commits that I know of so far. 2023's Ashley Pater and Jordan Boulware, from Florida. This team pretty much dominated the East Coast junior circuit for their age group. Although, they don't have much recent experience against the top California/Texas teams. Also, 2022 blocker Sterling Fischer, Northern California, tall, muscular player who switched to beach recently from a top level open division indoor team. This is a good catch imo because blockers are scarce but she moves like a split blocker. BVCA Championsip took place yesterday bvca.bracketpal.com/tournament/34Notable finishes for USC commits out of 131 teams in 18U. Walker Gold, Bennett Bronze, Thomas and Showalter both placed 9th.

Glad to hear about Pater and Boulware, who were 2 of only 3 9th graders on volleyballmag.com’s 20 Underclassmen to Watch List last year. They were listed as 5’8” and 5’9” at the time. I wonder if either has grown since then.
Yeah, good results in the BVCA Championships. Eden McCoy (USC 21) also got a 9th place, pairing with Natalie Myszkowski (UCLA 21). UCLA’s commits as a whole were a tad better this year. UCLA’s Hashman/Butler didn’t get far with a 17th, but Bonanni (UCLA 21) and Colligan (Cal 22) got a third. Funny that with McCoy/Myszkowski, Boyd/Walker and Smith/Bennett, there were at least three pairs with one USC commit and one UCLA commit.

2022 commit Gabby Walker wins AAU Nationals with her partner Maggie Boyd. This pair swept the three major national tournaments this year. AVP/BVCA/AAU. 2022 commit Mabyn Thomas wins 2021 AAU Player Of The Year (1st out of state player to win this) and took the Bronze at AAU Nationals along with her partner 2023 Kaileigh Truslow. 2021 commit Colby Bennet placed 5th volleyballlife.com/tournament/2636/division/12117/teamsTexas today has really reached a parity with California in terms of junior's beach volleyball. Back in 2014 I can remember, you were lucky to get 2 or 3 Texas teams into the final 16. Thanks for sharing! Looks like Bennett/Widener (Hawaii 21) were the most competitive against Boyd/Walker, taking them to 39-37. Bennett/Widener also previously took out the UCLA pair of Bonanni/Hashman by 28-15. Also in USC/UCLA news, in the Crystal bracket, Tatiana Rusich and Sophie Moore beat out Natalie Myszkowski and Alexandra Young (Cal 21).

Schafer and Villapando transfers are now official. The rich get richer with these two Pair 1 competitors replacing Haley Hallgren and Joy Dennis. usctrojans.com/news/2021/7/30/womens-beach-volleyball-usc-beach-volleyball-signs-transfers-caroline-schafer-and-sunny-villapando.aspx“The defending NCAA champion USC beach volleyball team has signed transfer student-athletes Caroline Schafer (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte HS) from California and Sunny Villapando (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) from Stanford head coach Dain Blanton announced on Friday, July 30. "Caroline and Sunny are fantastic additions to our program," said Blanton. "They are each proven athletes on the sand and scholars in the classroom. We're familiar with their abilities having had to face them as conference opponents and are quite excited to bring them into the fold and to have them play on our side of the net for the Cardinal and Gold. We expect them both to arrive and make an immediate impact on the court and on our program." Schafer is a two-time All-Pac-12 performer (2019 second team, 2021 first team) and a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection. She graduated from Cal with a degree in business administration and finished with 66-career wins (66-33 overall) for the third-highest win total in program history. Her .667 winning percentage ranks seventh among all-time Golden Bears. As a freshman, she went 25-7 overall with Mia Merino at the No. 4 position. During her senior season, she paired with Mima Mirkovic at the top court to go 20-8, collected 10 victories over ranked opponents, and was chosen as the Pac-12 Pair of the Week (April 21). Villapando was chosen to the AVCA All-America first team as a senior at Stanford in 2021 and received Volleyball Magazine All-America honorable mention as a freshman in 2018. As a senior, she was a Pac-12 all-conference second-team choice and earned her second Pac-12 All-Academic team nod. Villapando completed her career on the Farm with the most wins in program history and a 67-38 overall record. She was a member of the Pac-12's All-Freshman Team in 2018 and was 23-7 overall. As a senior, she went 22-11, which included a 19-10 mark at the top court when paired with Charlie Ekstrom and Xolani Hodel.”

More tough news for the undergraduates hoping to start. I don't see these two as dominate as Harward/Scoles were but they will likely gain starting spots. That leaves perhaps 1 spot opening up? Seem like if you want that you might want to get out and play some avp sponsored events in the off season.

Two Trojans in the Olympic semis. April and Tina. Maybe in the gold medal game as well?

Two Trojans in the Olympic semis. April and Tina. Maybe in the gold medal game as well? While I’ll be cheering for both USA and LAT, I suspect it will be USA-AUS in the finals with LAT beating the Swiss team for Bronze to reinforce number one status amongst the European teams. But who knows? All the quarterfinal matches were close.
