Well, expect that from media and any other form of social media. Those who doesn't want olympic to happen will exaggerate and make more dramas and will do any thing to stop thw olympic. Politics and everything. Not saying ignore all news but make some verifications. Expect more fake news and exaggerated news will come out in few weeks before olympic. A major Japanese newspaper is coming out calling for a cancellation of the Olympics. www.detroitnews.com/story/news/world/2021/05/26/tokyo-olympics-call-to-cancel-covid-19/7446425002/The biggest issue is not that the case rates are high in Japan, but rather because the vaccination rates are so low in Japan. Did IOC give any guidance on spectator attendance? already reported that there will be no foreign spectators.
As for Japanese spectators, that's on the Japanese government to set a policy. IOC shouldn't really control that.

It's questionable if it's worth it even if it goes off as planned with 100% capacity. To invest all of that money on infrastructure only to not get the revenue for actually hosting could dramatically hurt a city's finances for a LONG time. Even a city as big as Tokyo.

I know tokyo is very advanced city, but are they knowledgeable about the protocol and processes just to make this happen? 18 months of pandemic. Covid is not minor for sure but there are protocols that will be doing before the athletes will travel to tokyo. Every part of the world are having an indoor and outdoor sports happening right now.

Do the individual sports organizations (FIVB, FIFA, FIBA, ITTF, etc) have the right to just organize a tournament involving their sport for the olympics? Like you can have volleyball in Italy, soccer somewhere else, etc.
Or will the IOC be a **** and not let FIVB do that?

How did Japan not have a successful vaccine roll out? Do they just not have the buying power to purchase adequate doses for their population? I don't get it.

How did Japan not have a successful vaccine roll out? Do they just not have the buying power to purchase adequate doses for their population? I don't get it. These things are rarely due to one single issue. Some that come to mind are * stricter regulatory approval procedure (clinical studies MUST be done in Japan), as such only Pfizer is allowed.
* they wanted a "homegrown" vaccine like the UK, India, China, Russia.
* only nurses and doctors can vaccinate citizens (due to the rigid/inflexible mentality which some Asian cultures have)
* the halt in production/delayed exports from EU (although tbf it affected everyone using Pfizer)

Well ok then. Thank you for enlightening me. I would have thought that getting the public vaccinated would have been a top priority which is why I was confused.

As long as the athletes/personel go in negative and appropriate procedures are taken, I don't think hosting the olympics will lead to an outbreak.

Wasn't Japanese baseball one of the first sports in the world to get back to playing? Or was it Korea? (They both love baseball, I just remember games being broadcast on ESPN at like 4am because it was the ONLY sport)

Gotcha. You're right, Korea started April 21st. Looks like Japanese baseball started back up on May 26th. For comparison, MLB started on July 1. So still a month earlier than in the US.
