4) Samedy was more like 2019 Steph today, but came through big at the end. Will she ever outlive this inaccurate characterization from you or no What characterization? She was not very good in 2019. I'm guessing shoulder issues. I don't know. She has been great this year, although a little too passive in the first three games today for my liking. Credit to Purdue obviously. She can be, and often is, a great player. No argument from me there.

I couldn't tell. Was CC sitting in the 2nd row of the "bench"? I never saw her in a huddle.

14 kills in a 15 point set is pretty impressive. That is more than pretty impressive. I've never seen that. there were some tired arms out there. Purdue's serve receive was pretty awesome. If the Gophers could stay in system with similar passing stats they might be unbeatable. Did Pittman actually get a kill or two on the slide? Miyabe needs more court time. I was pretty sure loss #1 was being booked after the third set. But they found some reserve fuel and asserted themselves again down the stretch. Is this where experience in battle tells the tale? The upper class nucleus of the program has helped everyone stay focused through adversity... and there was a LOT of adversity in this second match. Echoes of the 'low error' approach were audible early, but 14 kills & 1 error in the fifth... what can you say. I hear the echoes of the Monkees 'I'm a believer'

Is it safe to say Purdue is the best team ever to be 2-4 lol

Really really though Purdue was gonna take a match It's definitely tough, but Purdue went 5 sets twice with the #6 team. Last year, we took one set off them in two matches and that was while they were missing Miller and I think Morgan for the 2nd game. This year, without question, Minnesota is ridiculously better and we stayed in there until the end. I would've loved a different result but still think the ceiling hasn't been reached with this Purdue team. Whether or not pollsters think Purdue is a Top 10 team is up in the air, but I think they're right there.

Is it safe to say Purdue is the best team ever to be 2-4 lol imagine the non-conference schedule you'd have to set up. Iowa could be the "easy" opponent, but you're still talking about a couple of Stanford Invitationals.
tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota or Nebraska had started like that once. Change at a key position or two plus a tough road opener and you might have the right ingredients for that SOS.

14 kills in a 15 point set is pretty impressive. Purdue's serve receive was pretty awesome. What? Rotation 1 was a nightmare. Gave up 6 straight points to end the 4th set.

it's a thought that the illness Cleveland is still recovering from, left her tired in both 5th sets and less a factor, hindering Purdue's attempt to get the job done both days in the 4th set, never mind the 5th. And that Newton is still not full strength yet from her knee injury perhaps, although did not look it. The frosh and sophs get a little more experience, and that team is a tough ticket if they make the NCAAs

Who is the PA announcer for Purdue? He sounds like the way that little kids would imagine the devil to sound (and I secretly love it!).

I haven't pored over the discussion, but wanted to comment on coaching:
MN had a 9-5 lead in the 4th set not too long after (about 5') Purdue was up 15-12
Samedy had been stuffed, mistimed an attack, hit a ball into the net, and abandoned her position leading to an ace
Hugh moved Landfair to opp and brought in Miyabe to give Samedy time to 'reconstitute'. On Friday he subbed Rubright for Myers without apparent hesitation He subbed Wenaas for Landfair the previous week when she was 'off'.
I like the decisions to not let players try to work things out on the court when they are not working.
Samedy came back in at 16-18 when Miyabe rotated out of the front court.
MN then tied at 18, lost 3 straight for 18-21 and then rattled off 7 in a row.
Could they have mounted this comeback without the substitution? I think not.
And a coaching shout out to Dave Shondell. Did Purdue ever lose a point after he called timeout... all weekend?
