"That ball was up off Blossom's shoe" - Most of the posters on here seem to disagree with you. For good reason, it unquestionably hit the floor first, and then bounced off her shoe upward. What was Rose and his staff doing that they did not see the play and allowed the player to convince them to make a wasteful challenge? I must be crazy. But I swear on I heard a touch of something after the ball was hit. Clearly though on the replay, her hand was nowhere close to the ball. Could it have been Pittman's hand hitting her hand, when she closed the block? I could also just be crazy.

Couple thoughts: 4. Gotta wonder what's going through Katie Myers' head these days. I gotta imagine she garnered a lot of interest while in the portal. Bit of a shame if her pick resulted in her not even playing I am also really confused. I don't think Rubright hurts us, and she obviously was a great recruit and has tons of potential to be a great player. But I am not seeing anything from her so far that where I'm like "oh wow, yes that was definitely the right call, she is bringing much more to the table than Myers."
There were a couple times in the match last night were the TV commentators gave her credit for a great block ... then on replay you can see the ball hit the pin's outside hand.
If Myers doesn't start tonight (ie, like Purdue and Penn State are an "experiment" or something, where each gets to start a match), then I just have to wonder if she feels betrayed by Hugh or whatever she would be thinking. I'm obviously making crap up out of thin air. I don't know what she was told when she came here, or why she picked us over other programs. Also know nothing about what is going on internally.

Having a player play in front of you doesn’t constitute “betrayal” by a coach, they’re not married.

Hugh has made it very clear in interviews that his gym is a meritocracy. No one is guaranteed playing time. No one. You have to show in practice and/or matches that you are the best option in that position on any given day. If a player "feels betrayed" by getting their starting position pulled after a poor performance, they're either playing dumb or it's not an act.
Rubright just looks really green. I think she's actually pretty quick and has some hops, but she's not getting sets in a consistent spot in the middle. They're generally too low for her to produce an effective rip at it. Reminds me a bit of Molly Lohman in her arm swing. Hopefully she grows out of it.

If a player "feels betrayed" by getting their starting position pulled after a poor performance, they're either playing dumb or it's not an act. Well firstly, let's again make it clear that I made that up, for the sake of VT discussion. I'm certain you won't hear that word/phrase publicly. And I have no info on what may or may not be said in private. That said, you can't really apply such a standard when it's not a player that was brought into the program as a freshmen, paid their dues waiting behind upperclassmen, and then had the rug pulled out from under them for a new recruit.
This was a top middle that was looking to join a different program for a year (or two?) and so obviously wanted to play. Not just be on the team to win a championship. (I am making that assumption)
On the other hand, maybe Rubright felt the exact same way when Myers was brought in? Maybe she felt like "Hugh, how could you bring her in??". Again, this is me making crap up out of thin air, for the sake of unsubstantiated fan gossip/rumoring/discussion. Cuz that's what VT is for. She may not have felt that way at all. We of course don't know. I would just like to think that if Hugh had known that the plan was for Rubright to be the M2, with Pittman M1 and serving, that you'd tell Myers "we're flattered that you would consider joining our program, but suggest you might be more satisfied with your playing time if you look elsewhere". That's maybe the perfect world, and the perfect world doesn't happen.

That's maybe the perfect world, and the perfect world doesn't happen. I think it's absolutely reasonable for players to be disappointed in the scenarios you've described. At the same time, I expect it's wildly unlikely that Hugh would even come close to intimating that recruits should have any expectation on playing time. I don't think he wants to complicate things. If it's not working with me there, I'm going to be on the sidelines. If I'm not OK with the possibility of being there for an extended period of time, despite knowing I'm not performing to a level worthy of the spot, I have the option of transferring. At the end of the day, McCutehon wants and needs the program to do well. Although there are a lot of nuances in regard to individual development and experience in reaching that, it sort of boils down to winning.

Reading all of the comments that Penn State athletes play with too much "attitude"

Attitude or not, I do think Blossom is the best setter in the conference. She can do things with the ball that no one else can AND its pretty. Her setting keeps PSU in system regardless of the pass, and the is biggest reason they are successful IMO.

So obviously with the long time off from last season and etc. it's not fair to expect everything to be perfect.
But I will say, it seemed at least in the first two sets (if maybe most of the match), that her middles were running really fast and that the ball was not getting there in time. Were they getting to excited and getting there too fast? Was she just not up to speed? No idea.
She was getting massive praise from the TV commentators for that backset to the middle when she was out and facing the RS. And it worked for a point, fine. But that thing was like 2 and that middle was running like a 0.5. She still batted it over as she was falling back down to the court (and so were the blockers). Both are incredible athletes.

It wasn't anything like the ball off Gray's hand where the replay clearly showed her hand turning out and her reaction showing that knew she touched the ball.

I do think it was impressive (obviously moreso if the timing is a little better) but which other setters even attempt that? Hilley with rettke most likely. Anyone else you think goes for that?

Every team in the B1Gten should be frightened by this match. . . On limited practice and with a setter and L playing their first matches PSU went toe to toe with Minnesota. . . They are still not solid on the outside except for Parker, but they are one of the handful of teams who could win in Omaha. . . We’ll see how it goes. . . 🤷🏻♀️ Frightened? When was the last time an opponent slept on how good PSU is? There isn’t a team in the country even close to “frightening” PSU was, is and will be a tough out. Then you haven’t read the mocking and ridicule they have received on VT the past 6 months-but then it’s easier to just post blindly and without thinking like you do-continually. Question, have you ever played this game at any competent level?-doubt it. . . Carry on ms.GOSSIP1
